Sneakers
From the ground up

Next up in our Sneaker Rotation series is Andy Chiu, director of Originals and Action Sports at adidas Japan.

Hardly surprising given his day job, but Andy is currently donning an enviable selection of Three Stripes models, with some ultra-louche pool slides thrown in for good measure. visvim’s highly coveted cult classic FBT sneaker also makes an appearance.

See below for the seven models currently in Andy’s rotation, with a few words from the man himself.

adidas YEEZY Boost 350 “Turtle”

“I think this is the game changer for the sneaker business. Of course the 750 is part of this release too, but for some reason they look weird on me. So I personally prefer the 350 and the first colorway is still my favorite.”

adidas Originals x Hyke Stan Smith “Snake”

“How can I not have a pair of this clean silhouette? This cup-sole style with snake print is easy to wear on any occasion. White ones are dope too, but maybe I’m surround by too many of them — that’s why I prefer this one.”

visvim FBT “Sand”

“Ever since my first pair of FBTs I was a fan, and I even wrote a report about them in 2007. From a conceptual, aesthetic and execution point of view I love everything about this brand. These are quite worn out but I feel they’re getting better and better with age.”

adidas FUTURECRAFT

“The name says it all. The FUTURECRAFT is the fucking future. At first I was a bit skeptical, but the structure and the way the grids are created is smart, and I never thought they would be so comfy. Most 3d-printed objects are quite stiff, but not these. We will see where this will bring us to, but molds are until now still the most costly, complex and time-consuming part about footwear.”

Y-3 Pure Boost ZG Knit

“Once you’ve experienced BOOST soles, it’s hard not to have a pair in your rotation. I am probably rocking these the most at the moment. Whether it’s work or just roaming in the city – these are just perfect. The OG Ultra BOOST with the first-generation outsole were quite noisy. These with the new outsole are the ninja version.”

UNDFTD Pool Slide

“I love these. I think I am one of the few peeps that got a pair, since they were pulled out of retail due to quality issues. Not the same quality as the adilette but I like them even more because not many people own a pair.”

Supreme Pool Slide

“Tonal outfit with these and nothing can go wrong. Unfortunately the quality is quite low — just like the UNDFTD ones.”
