On April 20, 2010, one of the world’s largest man-made disasters occurred on the Deepwater Horizon in the Gulf of Mexico, killing 11 people. This new film “honors the brave men and women whose heroism saved many onboard.”

Directed by Peter Berg and starring Mark Wahlberg, Deepwater Horizon shows what happened when the drilling rig exploded, resulting in the biggest oil spill in U.S. history. Wahlberg plays Mike Williams, a worker aboard the rig who has a wife and small child waiting at home as he attempts to escape.

The film will undoubtedly feature many emotional moments and action-packed scenes, but its focus on people saving each other rather than the controversial issue of drilling in the gulf and the environmental damage done by spewing millions of gallons of oil in the ocean is perhaps questionable.
