Rich Homie Quan vs. The Internet

This week Monday was VH1's annual Hip-Hop Honors Award. As usual, a star studded lineup of classic and more contemporary artists descended on New York to be recognized and recognize others for their accomplishments. Among the highlight performances was Rich Homie Quan and Lil Kim's tribute to Notorious B.I.G. Several weeks worth of rehearsal should surely have culminated in a triumphant performance evocative of the golden era of Biggie, but unfortunately, Quan forgot the lyrics, to one of the Brooklyn rapper's most iconic songs no less. When the intro for "Get Money" dropped, Quan, well, he wasn't ready...

Of course the Internet, trusty cache of shade that it is, lit Quan up. The dragging lasted for so long he eventually had to issue an apology...

Vic Mensa vs. Venue

Chicago rapper Vic Mensa has increasingly established himself as a walking #staywoke hashtag. This week he further attempted to use his influence to draw attention to matters of inequality when he cancelled a show at a Detroit venue called Populux because it had previously sent out a number of tweets attacking Black Lives Matter and placing the blame for the Dallas shooting on the group, president Obama and liberals...

After Mensa pulled out of the show, the space was quick to issue a statement claiming it had been hacked...

“We didn’t authorize these tweets. We’re working to understand how our account was compromised. We stand in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement.”

Chris Brown vs. Club Owner

After accusing the staff of Drai's in Vegas of racism, Chris Brown's extended residency there was terminated. The club claims it was concerned with Brown's recent behavior and some of the legal trouble he's been facing. Despite parting ways rather non-amicably, club executives seem prepared to patch things up. According to reports the venue reached out to Brown with an olive branch and a request to talk over any perceived problems...

“Drai’s has always taken great pride in its relationships with our incredibly talented resident and guest artists, including a successful partnership with Chris Brown. However, recent events have raised concerns that will need to be addressed with Chris and his management before that relationship can continue to move forward. We have reached out accordingly and are waiting to hear back from his team. We remain open to sitting down with him to discuss the future.”
