Antonio Banderas will reportedly star as Gianni Versace in a new biopic about the Italian designer's life.

Banderas is said to be a lifelong fan of Versace and credits him with having inspired his own fashion designing endeavors. Last year, the actor enrolled on an MA fashion course at Central Saint Martins, later producing his first ever collection in collaboration with Scandinavian high-street brand Selected.

The flick will be directed by Billie August and filming is set to start in December. It will trace Versace's life from his birthplace in Reggio Calabria to Miami, where he was brutally was murdered by serial killer Andrew Cunanan on the steps of his own home.

Interestingly, the fashion house told WWD that it has "neither authorized nor had any involvement whatsoever in the forthcoming movie about Versace." The film, it says, "should be seen as a work of fiction."

There is no set release date as yet, but you can read all about Gianni Versace's murder here.
