The latest star of our recurring Meet the Muse series is model-turned-DJ and producer, Eva Shaw. Born in Toronto, the Canadian beauty first cut her teeth in music while occasionally performing small gigs on side of her busy modeling career.
After a few years of perfecting her craft, Shaw turned what she once dubbed as a “hobby” into a full-fledged profession, eventually headlining various club nights in NYC, Las Vegas and beyond. Now, having released several original productions supported by some of EDM’s biggest names – Tiesto, Calvin Harris, Hardwell, David Guetta and Afrojack – the artist continues to make waves with an ever growing social media following and single streams that’ve mounted in six-digit territory.
We asked Eva a few questions to learn more about her music and fashion interests. Read what she had to say below and peep our last Muse, DJ Siobhan Bell.
How old were you when you realized that you wanted to pursue music as a profession?
I think I always knew I wanted to be involved in music as a profession. I was constantly dancing and singing and writing music when I was even 6 years old.
How did you come to this realization?
Music always made me happy. It’s just something I’ve always done naturally and I think if you gravitate toward something you have to follow it.
What are your biggest musical influences?
I love anything that makes me want to dance. I like a good beat and groove. I take inspiration from anywhere I can find it. Anything from Technotronic to N.E.R.D to Drake to Red Hot Chili Peppers…I’m always inspired by something different. Sometimes I’m inspired by dancers or someone playing an instrument.
Favorite artists at the moment?
This is tough because I find new artists I like everyday, as well as tons of stuff from the past. I’m a huge Drake fan and I really like what Skrillex is doing right now.
Favorite album of all time?
In Canada we had these Much Music dance mix compilations from the ’90s that are unreal. I love that ’90s vibe.
Drake, Pharrell…the list is HUGE.
Five tour essentials?
Cell phone, laptop, music, headphones and sleep.
Describe your style at the moment.
Happy and driven.
How does fashion correlate with your musical artistry?
I don’t really think it does other than being comfortable. It’s hard to be creative if you’re not comfortable.
How has your background in modeling translated into your musical career?
It paid for all of my production gear!
