Three new clips for War for the Planet of the Apes were unveiled to a small audience yesterday at New York Comic Con — one of which Warner Bros. has now uploaded to YouTube for our own viewing pleasure.
In front of an enthusiastic crowd of fans and journalists, director Matt Reeves, producer Dylan Clark, and star Andy Serkis shared a brooding teaser trailer (which you can see above,) a rough seven-minute sequence from the movie, as well as a behind-the-scenes reel focusing on the production process. It's yet to be confirmed whether these other two clips will be released online.
Reeves told the audience that War of the Planet of the Apes is an epic war movie that takes the series to a "mythical," darker, and more action-packed level than earlier movies in the franchise.
According to the official synopsis, the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise sees Caesar and his apes forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer grave losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own "mythic quest" to avenge his kind. Caesar and the Colonel are then pitted against each other in an epic battle that determines the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.
Watch the teaser above, and look out for the film's release on July 14, 2017.
In other movie news, Netflix has signed a deal to bring its original movies to theaters.
