Activision has released a goofy, star-studded live-action trailer for its upcoming video game, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, featuring Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps and comedian Danny McBride.
The trailer, directed by Peter Berg, is titled “Screw It, Let’s Go To Space” and pokes fun and this year’s depressingly awful news cycle. “2016 continues to be one of the worst years in decades according to social media polls,” a news anchor reads over the opening shots of the clip. “In something we’ve never seen before, a moderator punched a presidential candidate in the face.”
We then see people spontaneously jumping into spacecrafts and heading out to distant planets for a spot of “Infinite Warfare.” Once there, we see Phelps and co. battling it out in the midst of dogfights, heavy machine fire and huge explosions.
“I do love the game and I have spent a bunch of hours playing it, especially during training camps and whenever we travel,” Phelps said. “So, there’s definitely a good, little friendly competition between the teammates and it definitely takes our mind off competing when we’re traveling and it helps us relax a lot.”
In keeping with previous Call of Duty live-action trailers, it’s big, it’s stupid, it’s a little bit cheesy — but still very fun. Check it out above.
