Earlier this year, FKA twigs took part in the Manchester International Festival, a multi-discipline arts showcase. She held a week-long residency there and performed a dance piece titled "Soundtrack 7," which incorporated several of her songs in what was billed as "an abstract autobiographical" work. Now, the piece has been turned into a hypnotically eerie short film. Watch an extended clip of it below:
twigs has described the work as "flesh, sweat, feeling, muscle - no airbrushing, no frills," and the minimalist aesthetic is made clear immediately. At multiple points in her career she has conveyed her supreme talent for dance, but she pushes herself to unfounded heights in this self-directed, self-choreographed film. It utilizes her new single from this year, "Good to Love," as well as some deep cuts from her discography, including "Ultraviolet" and "How's That."
