During its first four days of availability, Nintendo‘s first-ever proper smartphone game, Super Mario Run, was downloaded more than 40 million times by iOS users, thus breaking the App Store record for number of downloads during that span. The game launched initially in 140 different countries.

Super Mario Run can be downloaded on iOS devices for free, but players will have to pay a one-time fee of $9.99 USD in order to unlock the full game. Nintendo has yet to reveal how many individuals actually paid to play.

Nintendo has already made available an update for the game which boasts a number of small features such as new holiday-themed items for kingdom building mode. The company however has no plans for major updates in the future.
