As the great Carl Sagan once remarked, “the Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena,” and nowhere else is said quote more evident than in Benjamin Grant’s Overview: A New Perspective of Earth book.

Grant’s work has been influenced by the “transformative effect” said to be felt by astronauts when viewing Earth from space and subsequently rethinking mankind’s impact upon it. On a daily basis for the past two years, the writer has been sharing an image of earth from Google Earth to his Instagram account, with the new book a composite of some of the best shots and contemplations.

Grant’s book encompasses well-known landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty and the Sydney Opera House, to places as far-flung as Kenyan refugee camps and Buddhist institutes in remote Tibetan valleys.
