Ty Dolla $ign had a pretty impressive 2016. His electorally-influenced mixtape Campaign was among the year's more eclectic hip-hop releases, spawning several runaway singles and a truly glittering music video with Future. But Ty is ringing in his new year on a significantly calmer tone as part of VICE's ongoing "Autobiographies" video series.

The video tracks Ty's rise through the music industry over the past several years, and offers a surprisingly revealing look into his humble beginnings. Among the topics he addresses includes the early support he received in his career from his grandmother, meeting YG and in a particularly heartbreaking moment, discusses his brother's incarceration which inspired his debut album Free TC.

Stay tuned for Ty Dolla $ign's mixtape Beach House 3 to arrive this year.

Revisit the video for "Campaign" below.

In other music news, Major Lazer has shared a surreal video for "Believer," wherein the band addresses the crisis in Syria. Watch it right here.
