American artist Daniel Mirer investigates the cultural landscape of the Midwest with his latest exhibition, Indifferent West. Shooting the wide-open spaces, idyllic scenery and sparsely-populated wilderness that makes up the bulk of the region, Mirer uncovers kitsch, romantic views of Americana — a fictional space where the Malboro Man reigns supreme.
Stunning scenery and decaying buildings are vivid symbols of an America that existed before globalization, social media and the Internet turned everyday life on its head.
Indifferent West runs April 15 through May 27, 2017, at Amsterdam’s Gallery Vassie.
