A first trailer has emerged for the movie adaptation of Vince Flynn's bestselling 2010 novel, American Assassin.

The movie sees former teen heartthrob Dylan O'Brien assume the role of Mitch Rapp, a young CIA operative with a grudge after losing his parents and then his fiancé to terrorist attacks. Struggling to find his place in the world, Rapp eventually serves under the tutelage of grizzled Cold War veteran Stan Hurley, played by Michael Keaton, who shows him the ropes before joining forces to investigate a threat in the Middle East that could eventually lead to a global catastrophe.

American Assassin is directed by Micahel Cuesta (Homeland, Six Feet Under) and also stars Sanaa Lathan and Taylor Kitsch. The book ran to 15 series before author Flynn passed away in 2013.

Watch the footage above, and look out for further trailers ahead of the movie's September release.

After you've finished, check out Playboy's playmate of the year.
