Warner Bros. has today unleashed the official main trailer for Christopher Nolan's upcoming war epic, Dunkirk.

Set in 1940, the World War II picture details the evacuation of 400,000 Belgian, British, Canadian and French troops who were surrounded by the German Army, ultimately facing capture or slaughter during the Battle of France.

Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Kenneth Branagh and Mark Rylance star in the impactful film, which according to Nolan, “[It’s] one of the greatest stories of human history. At its heart, it’s a survival story. The enemy is closing in on the British on this beach with no escape. I wanted to put the audience in the story.”

In addition to directing, Nolan produced the movie alongside Emma Thomas and Warner Bros.

Dunkirk lands in theaters July 21.
