A handful of Hollywood’s most notable directors including Denis Villeneuve, Paul Feig and Sofia Coppola have revealed their favorite films of the 21st-century so far.

The lists were featured in an article by The New York Times, with further contributions coming from Antoine Fuqua (Training Day), Brett Ratner (Rush Hour), and acclaimed documentary maker Alex Gibney.

As ever with these sort of compilations, there were one or two surprises: Who could imagine Coppola, famed for her dreamlike visual aesthetics, sitting down to Will Ferrell comedy Daddy’s Home?
