The long gestating Freddie Mercury biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody, which outlines the life of the Queen frontman, has had several stops and starts in recent years — with Sacha Baron Cohen signing on and then abandoning the project after creative differences with members of the band.

Mr. Robot’s Rami Malek was eventually cast as the legendary performer, and today we get our first look at him in the Bryan Singer-directed project which will chronicle Queen from their founding, to their iconic 1985 performance at Live Aid. However, there will be no mention of Mercury’s battle with AIDS.

While Malek is certainly a spitting image for Mercury, he’s also reportedly got the vocal chops to mimic him and will find his voice blended with the original tracks.

“We’re going to use Freddie as much as possible and use myself as much as possible,” Malek told Entertainment Weekly. “I’m in Abbey Road [Studios] right now if that should say anything to you. I’m not working on my acting.”

Bohemian Rhapsody is out December 25, 2018.
