Tune in and turn up

The Hand In Hand Hurricane Relief Telethon took place Tuesday, September 12. The event organized by Houston rapper Bun B saw many notable celebrities taking part, including Oprah, Jamie Foxx, Kelly Rowland, George Clooney, Matthew McConaughey and Justin Bieber.

Drake and Beyoncé also participated, both sharing moving speeches encouraging viewers to donate to hurricane relief funds, to deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey and the current catastrophe of Hurricane Irma. Watch Drake’s moving speech below.

“These days it seems as one issue is ending, another is beginning,” he said. “I know it can be extremely overwhelming. But your attention and your assistance is of extreme importance. On some days it will be about speaking up, and some days will be about stepping up. In this case, we’re asking that you give. Give whatever you can.”

Drake’s speech followed Houston native Beyoncé’s powerful message addressing climate change, which you can watch below.

“The effects of climate change are playing out around the world everyday,” Beyoncé explained. “Just this past week, we’ve seen devastation from the monsoon in India, an 8.1 magnitude earthquake in Mexico and multiple catastrophic hurricanes. Irma alone has left a trail of death and destruction from the Caribbean to Florida to the Southern United States. We have to be prepared for what comes next.”
