Torii Wolf is getting closer and closer to the launch of her debut album Flow Riiot, a record that is shaping up to be one of the fall’s most intriguing releases. For starters, the whole project is produced by the living legend that is DJ Premier. And Wolf has continued to release a steady stream of excellent singles showcasing her haunting sound.
Her latest is “Pain Killer,” a track that boasts a guest-production job from Mike Zombie, the OVO-beatmaker behind Drake’s “Started From the Bottom.” It is also making its premiere here on Highsnobiety Music, stream it below.
“’Pain Killer’” is a very intense record for me emotionally,” Torii told us. “I love the track that Mike Zombie created; his productions are dark and deep and that really resonates with me. I want people to connect with this song on a level of compassion and understanding. Falling in and out of love. The strong similarities to the high you get from being intimate with another person. Co-dependency. Vulnerability. There is space and emotion in this record. I did it in one take, so my raw emotion is immortalized here.”
Flow Riiot is out on September 29, preorder it here. Watch the video for album-cut “Shadows Crawl” below.
