Interview by Jeff Carvalho and Frank the Butcher.
People have been talking about global warming and this idea that fashion is not so seasonal as much as it is crossing over seasons.
HF - Yes. I think so.
One thing I have seen for iDiom in the coming seasons is layering. Does much of that have to do with climate change?
HF - Yes. I kind of want to make something I can wear in the summer... so I would like to do an Idiom summer line or even surf...
Do you think you're extending the shelf life of product also? Where [consumers] are not season conscious... they won't ask: Is it brand new? Am I wearing the newest thing? It almost becomes something for all year...
HF - I think so. These days, everyone is traveling all the time. I do travel a lot from winter to summer and summer to winter, so i need to have that [convertibility]. But it does make sense to make summer type of clothes too.
The one thing I noticed too is that there is a change of symmetry where there was an idea to make the zippers on a slant. Can you talk a little bit about the the thought process on that?
HF - That was just to try it, you know. I tried to do something different ... something like a rider jacket. Basically the pattern I took from the early punk rock kinds of things. I wanted to have that kind of flavor which is more like that jacket.
What are the future plans with Idiom as the seasons progress?
HF - I don't know. As I say, I want to do something for summer. I want to do it but I have to talk to Greg and Burton.
Hiroshi, you can ask us and we'll talk to Greg for you.
HF - Yes, please. I've been asking Greg or 2 or 3 years to do summer Idiom but it never happened. Maybe it will happen next year. Maybe you can help!
