Skateboarding has facilitated a great many relationships in our sphere. In the abstract, skating assists the spread of fashion and music around the world, helping to solidify a global culture with shared interests and passions. On a more concrete level, the simple action of hitting the streets brings people together, often planting the seeds for future projects.
Skateboarding is the reason behind the Etnies x Ed Banger collaboration. The sport is a shared love for Ed Banger Records honcho Busy P and Etnies founder Pierre-Andre Seinzergues. Though of slightly different generations, the two Parisians skated the same spots (occasionally at the same time) and life on the board was instrumental for both as they progressed professionally.
Their relationship formed naturally over time. And, so to did their collaborative work. Officially, Ed Banger began working with Etnies in celebration of the shoe brands 20th anniversary. Naturally, talk of a shoe progressed. And, after several years of talk, Busy P and his art director So Me got to business on the “Ednies” sneakers, a new silhouette informed by skateboarding and music. Set for a Holiday 2010 release, the “Ednies” sneaker features tonal glove leather upper and accents. So Me provided the custom tongue and created one of the best and most inventive footbed graphics in recent memory.
We chatted with Pedro Winter (aka Busy P) and Pierre-Andre Senizergues about the nature of their friendship and how it came together in the form of a brand new sneaker.
