JD: When did you start doing that?

JS: I've been buying her clothes and I started making her a few things since she was probably three. She's what eight now? Yeah she's seven I think... She's kind of the perfect mix between Matthew and Bjork cause she kind of has his blue, blue eyes but she has her face and then even her mannerisms like (gesturing) always does that... and just chirps like a little bird.

She's very creative as you can imagine.

But yeah... working with so many great people... right now I've been working a lot with Lady GaGa who I think is really showing people that she is really speaking in a new voice and it's amazing. I think the thing that's really important about pop music is how much it influences and has that amazing reach and you know I think there's some people who get to a point where pop is a dirty word and you know I've always loved pop music but at the same time listening to ... hip-hop. When I was in high school alternative music, which then was The Cure and The Smiths and you know now its like classic I don't know what the fuck these genres are. I don't even put things in a genre except for trying to explain it you know.

I think that [Lady Gaga is] really showing this whole new generation of people that are really inspired by her and the music's getting to people.

It's just the same way with Kanye. I mean he's someone that I'm so proud of because he's really opened up so much for a whole demographic and showing them new things and opening himself up to new things and I just think that he's, yeah he's really a truly wonderful artist, and I'm thrilled to work with him and do things with him and consider him a friend.

And I'm equally as thrilled that they're going on tour together so its all easy for me to deal with both of them at the same time.

JD: So I notice that Kanye West and Lady Gaga they're quite divisive characters, is that what draws you towards them?

JS: I never really think about it like that. I wouldn't say its because they're divisive but yeah they're very much -- they have a message And I think that's important too if you stand for something or stand for nothing, that you fall for anything. You know its like, you might as well just put a stand there.

But I mean I also love cheap pop sometimes too. I might not trust them. Like the Pussycat dolls or something like that. But you know the people. Kanye came to me... I would have never known what was all inside him if he was still unfolding. I think to us as an audience that's all inside him. You know its not that many years ago that he didn't represent all that he represents now. He's really in the last few years just kind of opened himself up and its kind of amazing, really.
