HS: How did you find photography as a medium? When did you realize it was something that you wanted to do?
Nitta: I have always loved taking photographs, even when I was a child. I have always been interested in fashion/culture and realized that by being a photographer I can capture images in different ways.
HS: Working with Terry Richardson, how did that change the way you produce photographs and what were the key lessons learned during that period.
Nitta: Terry taught me so many things, but most of all to have fun while shooting, and make the best photos possible.
HS: Who else has been an influence on your work?
Nitta: Bob Richardson, Andy Warhol, Marc Jacobs, the list goes on. I am inspired a lot by things that I see from day to day.
HS: Many of the photographs you produce have a strong sexual charge. What’s your impulse for capturing this and how does it play into your conception of beauty.
Nitta: I like to keep things interesting and adding a little bit of a sexual charge does just that.
HS: Of all the clients you’ve worked for, is there a favorite? Do you ever struggle to find your voice in those projects, or are you typically let loose on the thematic arrangement?
Nitta: I did a campaign for Tommy Hilfiger and they were a really great client! It really depends on the client in regards to whether I can do whatever I want, but usually they tend to be more on the conservative side.
