Supra Gets Fly With The TK Society Pro Model
By Nick Schonberger, posted on 30 April 2009
Fly Society is making big waves, how’d you hook up with Curren$y and how has the collective aided your advancement as both a rapper and a skater?

I actually met Curren$y a couple years ago at an Xgames after party. We were just kicking it and he was like, “I heard you do some music?” And I told him I did a little bit, but it was nothing super serious. He suggested we get on a track together, so I was like, “Good looks.” We kept in contact and just started messing around with some music, and we really started to get into it. It all just kind of fell into place and now we’re doing Fly Society.

Do you think there is a stigma attached to the rapping athlete? Does coming from action sports minimize the usual chatter?

I don’t know. I think for the most part people respect it because with music, that’s my background. I grew up in Long Beach, always seeing Snoop Dogg, my backyard was like the capitol of music to me. For me it was a no brainer, my family had done it forever, my cousins rapped, it was always there I just never pursued it until a couple years ago. I think most people respect it because its just based around my life. Just like skating, I always saw it and wanted to do it, but never really got seriously into it until I had been around it a while. So music was always on my mind, and now I’m actually doing it.

But I be catching some shit though, you know how kids are. The biggest fear I catch from it is kids telling me I better not quit skating. Like whenever I go out kids are like, “We love Fly society, but promise me you’re gonna keep skating.” I mean I take that as a compliment, and that’s what I came up out of and how I made it. And I know the majority of my fans are from skating, and I ain’t quitting any time soon.

How’s the acting going? What parts can we expect from you in the future?

I got that movie Street Dreams coming out in June. They had a festival for the film yesterday in Newport Beach. It sold out, theatre was packed so that got us psyched. But lately, I’m so busy with everything else right I haven’t even had time to be concentrating on acting. Maybe later.

What events do you have coinciding with the shoe release? A skate tour? Shows?

We got a Fly Society mixtape coming out, Supra and KR3W sponsored it. It comes out right my shoes does, on May 15th. We’re doing a shoe tour with a bunch of special releases at some stores from LA, down south, and ending with a show in New York.

The buzz for your shoe has made it almost like an underground Kanye. We’ve seen all different people rocking samples and offering teasers. Were you involved in seeding the shoe? On whose feet would you be most amped to see your pro model?

I make sure my people get theirs, and Supra has a bunch of people that love the Brand, like I just I heard Heidi Klum was wearing ‘em. Of course I’d trip if Jordan wore em, even though he’s got his own brand so that sucks. But if someone like him or Tiger Woods wore em that would be crazy. Tiger Woods with some TK’s!

Any clothing coming to go with the kicks?

Yeah we got a Fly Society shirt collabo coming out that match the purples and the black perfs. And my new TKO3 KR3W black wax jeans are the best, I wear those with my shoes and I’m loving it.
