acehotel portland 2 01 Ace Hotel Portland Opens
When still a few years ago one could only go to the big chain hotels to have a decent place to stay, in recent years Boutique Hotels have risen and established themselves. Small hotels, concentrating on design and customer service, targeted at a specific customer are making the difference these days and are in most cases less expensive than many others. Ace Hotel is one of those Boutique Hotels and has just opened their second hotel, after Seattle, now in Portland.
The Ace is not another iteration of the modern, generic design product that is now widely available. They have reinvented a classic downtown hotel, restoring a sense of history and place while reinterpreting those details for a sense of modern bohemia – an ‘Instant classic’ that marries the pragmatic with the romantic.

Ace Hotel Portland occupies an entire city block, built in 1912, situated in the heart of an emerging neighborhood once known as Portland’s Gay Triangle, bordering on the Pearl District. The building has been a hotel ever since its beginnings, previously operating under the name of the Clyde Hotel. Many of its original details, such as the deep cast-iron roll-top baths and capacious sinks, have been retained and refurbished. With its large windows and high ceilings, the 79-room hotel is characterized by ample proportions, luminous spaces and a reassuring sense of early twentieth century solidity.
Just like the first Seattle location, the new one also features rooms decorated by artists. In Portland Kenzo Minami and Brent Wick have created artworks in several rooms.
