Fu’s Is Back

It seems to be the time of the comebacks. Just yesterday we reported about Clae Footwear coming back this year with a Summer 2007 collection. Today we present you a brand with much more heritage also celebrating a comeback – Fu.
In a world of Citizens of Humanity, Ernest Sewns, Maharishi and Levis, there is no definitive jeans and casualwear brand that makes a lifestyle and fashion statement the way that FU’s is about to.
Originally created in 1968, FU’s is set to re-launch in February 2007. Standing for ‘F*** U Steinberg’ (a U.S jeans brand creator), FU’s graced the bodies of Jerry Hall, Julie Christie and every influential style icon with a sexy or non-conformist edge. Now, with men’s designer Nigel Cabourn (leading British designer, specialized in military outerwear) at the helm of its design team, FU’s is back.
The 2007 FU’s collection features an extensive men’s range of denim, utility and combat-inspired casualwear.  Jumpsuits, jeans, military jackets, t-shirts, sweatshirts define the range.  The darker mood of the era is captured in the authentic military cuts and denim-wear from the Vietnam War, the French Student Uprising and seminal moments in late 20th century history.
Peace and independence are central influences to the FU’s brand; with every cut of denim, jersey, linen, cotton and each battered rivet telling of a past that stood up to be counted. There is no branding on any FU’s piece. Instead, doves with machine guns, angry hippy faces with clenched fists, smiling flower children and the simple message ‘KILL FOR PEACE if you want to’ are the statements punched on to every garment – whether they are subtly imbedded in the care label or featured as part of the design.  The juxtaposition of military-inspired clothing and ‘aggressive peaceful’ messaging promotes peace as a modern irony.
FU’s isn’t about following fashion, it’s about being truly individual. FU’s embodies freedom of expression, freedom of spirit and freedom of choice. Now go ahead and check out what they offer you in their first new collection, that is presently available at Colette. We were impressed with the details, the style and the quality. Denim junkies as well as people into Japanese high-end streetwear brands such as W)taps should definitely be into this.
