Matt Mason’s The Pirates Dilemma (published by the Free Press and Penguin) explores the way ideas spurred by youth culture change the nature of how things are marketed and consumed. His focus, on Piracy, unravels concerns related to intellectual property, fair usage and at heart the way business is conducted the world over. Just how does youth culture influence new economic models? Are pirates to be condoned or condemned?
These questions have also driven a series of shorts dealing with essential issues in Piracy. Music, sneakers, medicines. The shorts are produced by Jesse Alexander, of Heroes Fame, Mark Klotlinski and John Carluccio from Current TV and Matt. They are a bit of tongue in cheek banter about piracy issues that should hopefully lend some quality dialogue to the current debates.
