Freshjive Drops Logo & Branding

Freshjive Drops Logo & Branding

In an interesting move Freshjive will be dropping all forms of logo placements and branding on their entire collection from Spring/Summer 2010. Rick Klotz has always had an issue with the business of branding, yet loves designing clothing and t-shirt designs. As a result he decided to no longer use the name Freshjive on any product coming from them. It’s a very interesting decision and we look forward seeing the impact of the decision.

After the jump you can take a look at how this no logo and no branding strategy translates onto their product.

doesn\’t having a blank tag or badge eventually become some sort of branding anyway? be it anti-branding.Naomi Klein\’s no-logo \’brand\’ for instance?

  2. I think so too, eventually the blank tag will be standing for a brand as well.

  3. Good, because ‘Freshjive’ is a terrible name anyway.

  4. tf:

    good move by them

  5. Capt Obvious:

What a crock of poo. This guy has been a jacker from day one (continually taking \

  6. G-One:

I really like this concept. I\’m sure it\’s been done before, but it\’s refreshing to see an attempt for a line\’s artistic value and production quality do the talking, not the brand name. I hope people will respond to it…

  7. I\’m feelin\’ the ILBT series more.

First thing I thought when I saw it was \

  9. Cool idea. Its been done before. TBG does it all the time. But doing so and announcing so all your consumers know is just a marketing strategy. Now we all know that Freshjive will be creating a collection that doesn\\\’t say the word Freshjive on it. The blank tag will be a brand in its own and the hype will make ppl buy it. Duh!

  10. Theyve had some terrible logos and prints over the years, so this might be a good idea, maybe focus more on the actual design of the piece.

  11. Again, I believe that in rather short time, the blank black “logo” will be branding as well. Not sure if this is consequent enough!

  12. True, true, but the guy that does not know Freshjive and this new branding strategy will buy only because of the design. Will be interesting to see how this works out.

  13. T:

agreed 100%. I like the new aesthetic, however announcing a move to drop all logo and branding is just that – it\’s still branding by definition. Same strategy as Muji.

  14. So is the collection going to follow the aesthetic of the tags?

  15. TAXFREE:

lame- why tell anyone just do it besides not that big of a deal. lots of small underground clothing brands have been doing it for years.

  16. JoeSchmo:

Hands down the best decision they couldve ever made next to just starting over with a whole new brand…hopefully the designs and price points will be on point…
