Urban Outfitters x The Impossible Project Polaroid Kit

This year, Urban Outfitters proudly presents a limited edition of 700 hand-numbered deadstock Polaroid camera kits. This exclusive Urban Outfitters special edition will include one pack of deadstock Polaroid Instant Film and one of the most sought after analog instant cameras: the Polaroid One600 classic, the last Polaroid camera ever produced. Urban Outfitters worked with The Impossible Project on the kit, who recently purchased all of the dead stock, plus all the machinery and equipment at Polaroid’s Netherlands factory before it closed. Together they two hope to bring back new analog instant film for Polaroid cameras in 2010.

Along with the kits, Urban Outfitters will offer additional deadstock original Polaroid Type 779 Instant Film saved from the last production runs made at the last Polaroid factory in Enschede, Netherlands. The film has been hand-selected, tested, and stored at low temperatures exclusively for Urban Outfitters.

In conjunction with the release of the special edition Polaroid film and camera kits, Gallery space at space 15 Twenty in los Angeles is hosting a month-long group show of Polaroid photography. The original Polaroid instant photographs on view in Everything is Possible will reflect the unlimited possibilities of working with this unique format.

A full list of the participating artists in the exhibition follows after the jump.

The exhibition features work from: Ali bosworth, Andrew Post, Arthur Ou, brad Troemel, cass bird, charlie engman, Dusdin condren, hasisi Park, Jackson eaton, Jason rosenberg, Jessica Williams, kava Gorna, leon batchelor, lina scheynius, madi Ju, marcelo Gomes, margaret Durow, mark borthwick, mikaylah bowman, michael hemy, mordechai s. rubinstein, nicholas Gottlund, nicole lesser, Peter Zachary Voelker, serge leblon, Vava ribeiro, Wai lin Tse and Ye rin mok.

This exhibition will be accompanied by a catalogue, available August 21st. For more information about Everything is Possible: A Polaroid group Show, visit space15twenty.com.

I\’m pissed at Polaroid. They stop making orginal instant film, that\’s was the best product they had!
Right when it started becoming popular again they shut down the factories. Poor decision, in my choice.

I\’m going to pass on this one, because it\’s a waste to buy a camera, when you\’re going to run out of film probably forever, & when you do find more film it\’ll cost $20 for 10 sheets

  2. Yeah, I agree. And if you really want one, hit the thrift store. They’re like 10 for a dollar. And why is the last one ever produced highly sought after? Seems like it would be the least.

  3. Jan:

Polaroid may have stopped making the film, but there is still The Impossible Project:
    http://www.the-impossible-project.com
which is hoping to pick production back up next year, of EXACTLY the type of film these cameras use (Type 600/779 film).

Maybe not such a bad idea to invest in a Polaroid Camera after all…

  4. My sister picked up one of the kits today in NYC today…each store received only 12 units apparently…more on my blog along w/ images.

  5. Issa:

The purpose of the Impossible Project is to breathe life back into the instant film business. Purchases of these special edition deadstock Polaroid cameras is specifically aimed at funding the factories and showing that there continues to be a thriving market for instant film. Essentially, you’re supporting the future of this industry through your purchase.

  6. [...] has stopped manufacturing instant-film, but The Impossible Project teamed up with Urban Outfitters (one of my all-time favorite stores) and sold the remaining stock. [...]
