Burton has unveiled the official uniform for the U.S. Snowboarding Team at the Vancouver 2010 Olympics – and it’s denim and plaid!
“The inspiration behind the U.S. Snowboarding Team outerwear for the 2010 Olympics is classic Americana,” says Greg Dacyshyn, Senior Vice President of Creative at Burton. “Although we are creating a uniform, our first objective is to express the individuality of snowboarding. As such, we are taking vintage American looks and interpreting them in a very unique and unexpected fashion. Finally, we will ensure that all of the highest technical attributes are maintained in the pieces, so that performance and function are not jeopardized. The result will be a progressive and fresh look that challenges the former conservatism of the Olympics.”

This is the coolest frikin snowbording outfit I have ever seen with my little eyes!!! Somebody please tell me where I can buy them! To all the people who thinks this is trash you do not understand why they maid them to look like this. It is to show American culture and we are different from the rest of the world. And they are not emo cause they are tight. They made them like that so the extra length or un-used part of the snowpants can slow you down, clip other people up in a race, and can do much more. Also, being tight alows more movement easily.
Dissappointing? Have you gone to the slopes to see what boarders are wearing? This uniform is at the root of snowboard lore in America. This gear is hot, and I wanna get me some.
I have heard that the gear from both our team and yours are only avalible to the Athletes but Burton is releasing similar gear to this for the US, however the only things I have seen confermed for the US is a hat the same plaid as the jacket…I think this gear is awsome and I’m canadian I dont get why other people dont like it…Its cooler then ours even

Really people? It’s snowboarding, this is how snowboarder’s are. They aren’t going to be wearing some skin-tight spandex or even conservative wear.
@Zak: These are world class snowboarders, but who said world class snowboarders have to dress like world class boarders? Most of these athletes are, you know, kids. They probably love the uniforms. Looks don’t make the talent, and talent doesn’t justify what you wear.

I agree, very cool gear. Love the plaid! If you have a young boy, I recommend a VERY similar plaid in a new swim board short from Target! Mossimo style #249938A/Navy. Only #9.99! Stopped me dead in my tracks while shopping this morning!

so are the pants like normal snow pants, just denim on the outside to look like jeans? i think it is a cool idea to make them look casual. I think most snowboarders would wear stuff like that on the street so why not make their gear represent their style? burton did a good job here. and i tihnk the nike gloves are sweet too.

I don’t snowboard or even ski. But I saw this on our Olympic athletes and had to research it. I think it’s fabulous looking. Love the “jeans” and love the plaid jackets. Brilliant fashion forward choice — I hope the athletes like them too.

Saw the uniform on TV last night and I thought there was something wrong with my TV because the pants looked like jeans, but it couldnt be jeans, could they?!
After doing my research I absolutely love the whole get up, I want it. It made our boys look fly and very patriotic indeed. Congrats Burton and congrats to Shaun White on that jaw dropping performance!
I’m 60 years old and not a boarder, but I LOVE these outfits! I think they perfectly captured the energy, the informality and the fun of these wonderful kids. If you don’t like this, you probably don’t fully appreciate the culture of these talented athletes. Go team!

judging from the response on this thread, i can take a pretty good guess how everyones going to look on the slopes come 2011 season! but count me in! i will get my hands on a pair of those pants one way or another! btw, burton came out with those snowpants for women last year. you can find a few on ebay. just search \burton\ and \denim.\ alas, no mens pants yet, but im sure these will be out before next winter.

Another site was saying that Burton won’t mass produce the jacket & jeans because the company “is not about uniforms”, and that it’s goes against everything in their business practice. Don’t know if that’s true. I hope someone gets the rights to make them though…they are sick!

I bought Burton’s denim/Gore-tex pants a couple seasons ago, and I love them. I love bringing street style to the slopes… white boots that look like kicks complete the look… If I rode half as good as I looked up there, I could quit the day job!

the Burton Olympic team kit is awesome! I’ve been snowboarding 26 years and I have one of the first ever Burton snowboarding jackets still hanging in my closet. This is one of the coolest designs I’ve seen in years and it got me to their website for the first time in years. I’d love to get my hands on it. Pure Americana!

The Burton team gear looks awesome! We made jeans/denim popular, it fits to reach into American history and extend jeans into this *relatively* young sport in the Olympic arena. I had to do a total double-take – what, wearing jeans is comfortable in snowboarding?! Um, that is, I saw the Burton logo. Great gear, would love to land some of those pants!!

Was not a boarder but caught these on TV, they seemed to smash my prejudices about snowboarders & most modern action sports, image-wise; these rigs allowed me to focus on our guys’ abilities and instilled in me an even deeper national pride, plus besides looking cool for street gear they looked more of a uniform than most of the other teams; China looked like a cross between a waste management crew and an ER nurse, the only thing Japan had was the matching bib. Watching the games made me where before I might have adamantly refused to ever try snowboarding, to wanting to experience it some time not too far off. But the jacket, I think I will highly require one for when I am out on my bike. The maker would have to be blind or extremely highly principled to not make these available. At least the jacket though; I seen similar pants for riding, although maybe not Goretex

I can’t believe only one post about the gloves. Great gloves with the stars & stripes on the palms. I haven’t seen them (or even mention of them) anywhere. Has anyone seen or heard if they are going to be available? I don’t even see them as part of the Burton team uniform.

I love the whole snowboarding look. The complete outfit is very USA. For those of you who are to young to be a baby boomer, the plaid jacket is the surfing look of the 1960s. We all wore surfing shirts. Either navy with white trim or burgandy with white trim. Blouses were this great navy, burgandy and white plaid. Where can we buy this cool jacket in the Pacific Northwest? Congrats on making the snowboard team very stylin, as my friends kids would say.
