Comme des Garcons has partnered with Samsung Cheil to open the brand’s first flagship store in Seoul, spanning over 1600 square meters and seven floors.
“Keeping only the 47 metre wide 18m high glass façade of an existing building, the totally reconceived interior will house all the brands of Comme des Garcons in seven mezzanine floors. These half floors are linked by five enclosed sloping tunnels in which will be displayed a variety of special products from Comme des Garcons, as well as other designers and artists.
In the 150 sq metre basement, there is a Comme des Garçons SIX Gallery, only the second such space in the world after the original SIX in Osaka, where exhibitions will be held three times a year, starting in October with David Lynch, the Darkened Room.
Finally, the ground floor hosts the first Rose Bakery franchise outside Europe, as well as a Comme des Garçons PLAY BOX. Designed by Rei Kawakubo, Seoul’s “Five Tunnels” Comme des Garçons flagship store is hopefully the beginning of a long and happy relationship with Samsung Cheil.”
