Converse is working with designer Ryusaku Hiruma of sak once again, this time on a handmade pair of Dr. J Pro Leather sneakers for Fall 2011.
“The Pro Leather shoe changed the basketball sneaker forever. It was worn by Dr J who ushered in the modern era of the game and, back-in the-day, the man and the shoe represented effortless style with remarkable technical skill. In that spirit, we are excited to debut this shoe which fuses sak’s unparalleled skills as a craftsman and the legendary Pro Leather shoe to create a stylish work of art,” says Ian Ginoza, Converse Director of First String and Special Projects.
The sak sneaker features rich, supple, natural brown Italian leather, hand-stitched from upper and rand to insole including leather soles with ink-printed logos and trademark Pro Leather details.
Only 24 pairs will be available September 9, 2011 at Converse First String Retailers. Unmistakable craft and quality. $600 USD.

[...] saks for Converse Dr. J Pro Leather – Fall 2011 xxCoreyxx | September 8, 2011 | Comments (0) Tweet Ryusaka Hiruma, founder/designer for sak, graces the next releases of the Dr. J Pro Leather with his artistry. The popular basketball shoe made famous by none other than Dr. J is reinterpreted as an aged sports classic with a contemporary edge. The upper is comprised of timeworn leathers with a contrast leather lace assembly. The vintage midsole is double stitched which gives the shoe a complete 1950′s Italian leather wingtip aesthetic but with a rich basketball history. At a price tag of $600 and only 24 pairs to be made available, you can be sure that these will not stay in stores long. Release is slated for September 9 at Converse First String retailers. via HS [...]
