It was clear that we will be seeing a ton of ‘Year of the Dragon’ releases the closer we get to the new year. Most sneaker brands are making use of the occasion to release special styles, taking into account the Chinese Zodiac year and most of the time the outcome is not pretty.
As usual Converse manages to take a rather subtle and appealing route. They present the Chuck Taylor All Star Hi ‘Year of the Dragon’, featuring a nice premium leather upper, featuring an understated tonal dragon print on the upper and red laces matching the lining. (Via Keedan/Hypebeast)
A release of the sneaker should be soon.

Here again, I ask the question – how many ways will Converse find to sell the same cheap old shoe at a ridiculous markup? Every couple of months we get a new spin on the ct and the jp. How about investing in designing some new classics? Like Levis before it, Converse is methodically driving their brand into the ground with these exhausting “reinterpretations” of exactly two variations of essentially the same old rubber and canvas shoes.
When Nike introduces a new version of a “classic”, at least they are pulling from a deep bench. Have you been in a Converse store lately? 90% of the shelf space is taken up with jp’s and ct’s.
