The Stages 09 exhibition, a collaborative effort between Nike Sportswear and Lance Armstrong’s Livestrong foundation, will open for the last time its doors in Miami next month, during Art Basel Miami. After previously being shown in Paris and New York, the impressive list of artists that worked on special pieces for the show is back one more time. Elms Lesters Painting Rooms is proud to present a series of exclusive limited edition prints by stellar international artist Jose Parla. The new print releases, in editions of 100, will be on show at the gallery from Saturday December 5th to Saturday December 12th.

The series is produced by Elms Lesters Painting Rooms and printed at the renowned Mat Sant Studios in London, combining the highest quality giclee process with over-layering of Parla’s trademark, free-flowing calligraphic markings using multiple hand printed silk-screens, capturing the very essence of his original paintings.

Our Radcollector Team is currently in Paris for the Quicksilver Skate Demo, a large event organized in collaboration with Tony Hawk, featuring the art of Parisian artist André all over. After announcing the biggest solo exhibition of New York artist Eric Haze a while back, we can give you a detailed look at the works on display today. The artist presents both paintings and sculptures in the exhibition, building on the iconic style that we know from Haze. The hybrid of fine art and design is very much apparent in a lot of works, working mostly with arrows, symbols and lines.

Shepard Fairey worked with Glen E. Friedman and with Jim Muir, founder of Dogtown skateboards, on a new print that was produced to support Jim with is injuries. Limited to 450 pieces, the proceeds of the print will go towards covering the medical bills of Jim Muir. The print will go on sale on November 19th for 80 USD.

Happy Socks are bringing on the Christmas cheer early this year … They have been to the furthest corners of the globe to secure the services of the the worlds most eminent and visually creative talent to make Christmas cards with a difference. The brief “why are Happy Socks as important as Santa Claus at Christmas” was their only guide. Well now the collaboration between Happy Socks and the following six artists is complete – James Jarvis, Cream, Mr Bill & Mz Fanny, Mr Giorgio Camuffo, Marok and Lady Lisolette Watkins.

Eric Haze is proud to announce New Abstracts and Icons, a major solo exhibition in New York City of new paintings, drawings, and sculpture. It is the artist’s largest exhibition to date.

In New Abstracts and Icons, bold iconography and his natural line quality are free of any predictable design or past imagery. Haze is intent to convey his overall message in the purest and most organic terms possible through the combination of stark color contrasts and clean lines. The result is an overtly minimalist composition. The viewer does not have to sift through metaphors and signifiers; instead, Haze bravely reveals his personality and identity in stripped down, simple form. Through these new works chaos is calmed and harmony is nurtured.

New Abstracts and Icons will be the first event held at Level 2, a newly built-to-suit 2500-square foot gallery space on 812 Broadway and 11th Street. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served at the opening reception with world class DJs A-Trak and Neil Armstrong providing the audio.

Starting November 22nd, MOMA will be showing an extensive retrospective of the work of artist, writer, producer Tim Burton.

“Following the current of his visual imagination from early childhood drawings through his mature work, the exhibition presents artwork generated during the conception and production of his films, and highlights a number of unrealized projects and never-before-seen pieces, as well as student art, his earliest non-professional films, and examples of his work as a storyteller and graphic artist for non-film projects. The opposing themes of adolescence and adulthood, and the elements of sentiment, cynicism, and humor inform his work in a variety of mediums—drawings, paintings, storyboards, digital and moving-image formats, puppets and maquettes, props, costumes, ephemera, sketchbooks, and cartoons. Taking inspiration from sources in pop culture, Burton has reinvented Hollywood genre filmmaking as a spiritual experience, influencing a generation of young artists working in film, video, and graphics.”

The exhibition is on until April 26, 2010, so make sure to pass by!

Artist and Nike SB alumni Michael Leon has released his latest “Untitled” hand-poured solid gypsum skull sculpture. This one is done in a metallic red flake in an edition of 5. The piece weighs in at 7 pounds and features a hand engraved signature and number by the artist. Now available at the Michael Leon Store.

Inspired by the Hansel and Gretel story, superstar photographer Annie Leibowitz has shot the “little girl & boy lost” story for the annual Vogue December art issue. Parisian graffiti artist André once again keeps himself busy these days. Just recently we reported about his collaboration with Incase as part of the Curated by Arkitip collection. Here we take a look now at a series of Quiksilver that the artist custom hand painted with his artwork. Overall he worked on 12 surfboard. For now it is now clear whether these will be sold, auctioned off or not come out at all. We will keep you posted.

Our friends at Clae recently took a trip to Asia, where they had the privilege of attending Ai Weiwei’s “According To What?” exhibition. Best known for the collaborative work with architects Herzog & de Meuron on the “Bird’s Nest” Stadium for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Ai Wei Wei has been called “one of the most evocative creators in contemporary China”. Ai Weiwei’s most recent show explores the process of dismantling, transforming and recreating and is now on exhibit at the Mori Museum in Tokyo. Truly inspiring work – the bike sculpture above being our favorite.

To celebrate their 40th anniversary, Quiksilver got together with Japanese photographer Takashi Kumagai to work on a capsule collection and a series of artist photographs. The outcome is a heritage inspired collection, which consists of pants, backpacks, jackets and shirts. Branding is kept to a minimum and compared to the regular Quicksilver collection, the line rather concentrates on quality and materials, rather than bold graphics. colette will be releasing the collection November 20th.
