For the first time Lana Del Rey is making the Vogue cover, which is obviously a pretty big deal for the up- and coming singer. The March 2012 issue of Vogue UK will feature Del Rey in Louis Vuitton on the cover, along with a full shoot inside the issue by Mario Testino. The issue hits newsstands on February 6th.

Interview Magazine has caught up with ASAP Rocky for its February 2012 issue. The rapper is all over the place right now and keeps on gaining momentum. Just recently we reported about him making the cover of Complex Magazine.

Here we can show you now some images from the Interview Magazine story, featuring the rapper in the latest high fashion has to offer, ranging from Givenchy to Rick Owens and Comme des Garcons. We like the ‘Comme des FuckDown’ cap and beanie from the shoot, which released years ago from SSUR under his The Cut label. We reported about it in 2007 here. Love that!

San Diego-based photographer Tim Mantoani undertook a fascinating project in which he photographed photographers holding some iconic imagery that they were responsible for. It’s always a great thing putting a face to something, as is the case here. There’s no doubt that you have seen some, if not all of these images at some point.

What’s also astonishing is that these were all shot with a large format 20×24inch Polaroid camera, which cost Mantoani $200 per photo. Over 150 portraits were created during a 5-year period, and with the camera company going under, it made it that much more of a mission to complete.

DC Entertainment has unveiled a wave of new interactive logos that are meant to correspond with certain comics and superheroes. DC refers to them as “peel back” logos where you can see the “D” peeling back revealing the “C” in addition to more insight into the characters, etc.

Speaking with Fast Company, DC’s Senior Vice President of Franchise Management Amit Desai suggested the new logo’s “peel back” imagery reflected the nature of DC characters as individuals with dual identities. “When you think about our DC Comics superheroes, there’s a secret identity,” he said. “When you think about Vertigo, it’s this notion of good vs. evil in many of the stories. And so, in addition to flexibility, the new logo communicates this idea of dual identity: There’s more than meets the eye. You have to take a closer look to understand the richness of our characters and stories.”

For their February/March 2012 issue (also starring A$AP Rocky & Jeremy Scott) Complex hooked up with rising star Lana Del Rey on a killer cover.

Hers was a dramatic setup.

White balloons flashing corroded cartoon clips and ghostly images of President John F. Kennedy—all set to the creepy strains of Bernard Herrmann’s Pyscho theme. The fans kept coming through the door, filling New York’s Bowery Ballroom to capacity. The band stood at attention, poised for action as Lana Del Rey strolled on stage to squeals and whistles. Dressed in a summery white dress, gold belt, and low white Chuck Taylors, the tall red-haired singer looked more like she was ready to grab an ice-cream sandwich from Mr. Softee than perform her first proper concert in NYC.

And then the trouble began.

The first new issue of Complex Magazine for 2012 is about to hit newsstands and none other than ASAP Rocky and Jeremy Scott have gotten the cover story. One of the most hyped young rappers and always much discussed fashion designer Jeremy Scott certainly make for an interesting match.

“Complex: Why do you think hip-hop is so fascinated with fashion and vice versa?

A$AP ROCKY: As black people it was our thing to show that we’re not living in poverty and that we can afford extravagant things—that kind of stuck with us. So when our great-grandparents were putting on their favorite outfits, it was to put on a front for the hard time. And hip-hop is a bunch of people that never had nothing. Fashion is just an expression. It’s an art. It expresses your taste. Good taste is important in hip-hop. I wake up saying I’m going to look the best I can and do what the fuck I want to do. And that’s what it’s all about. I don’t know if I articulated it good because im pretty high right now—and I have a lisp and I’m going to Mars right now.

Jeremy Scott: [Laughs]. The thing is hip-hop is one of the only communities that really started its own trends.

A$AP ROCKY: Wow.

Jeremy Scott: That’s why I’ve always been inspired by hip-hop artists, because they transform things—even just the jean, turning it around, inside out, sagging it—all these different things. Yes, of course we get little things from other music movements, but hip-hip has been like, Pow! It’s really inspiring and it’s the only new music that has come along in eons. Rock and roll has been around—it’s changing forms. But hip-hip is major.”

Once again Lady Gaga and her stylist Nicola Formichetti surprise with an interesting production for L’Uomo Vogue. The Italian version of the magazine features Gaga on their latest cover, dressed in a half-robot like outfit. Shot by Inez and Vinoodh, Gaga wears the same clothes from her recent ‘You and I’ video. After Vogue Homme Japan, this makes the second men’s Vogue cover for Gaga.

It looks like Mass Appeal Magazine will be coming back in 2012. Many regard Mass Appeal as the first true urban lifestyle magazine, featuring everything from graffiti and art, to sneakers, streetwear, skateboarding, music and other lifestyle elements. Among its columnists were also Mister Cartoon, Reas and other influential characters of our culture. Founded in 1996 in Brooklyn, as a graffiti fanzine, the magazine unfortunately closed its doors in 2008.

Today we come across their website and see the ‘We’re Back in 2012′ headline. Well, we hope its true and cannot wait to see what they will be doing this year under this iconic name.

We reports about endless product collaborations here and in some cases the get together of two parties make sense and results in a fantastic new product. In other cases the results are more questionable. Designer Jeff Staple is involved in a lot of them himself and gives us some background on the different types of collaborations and more importantly explains when it is not a collaboration and what makes a good one. He wrote the article for the latest issue of Antenna magazine.

“As soon as man could make things, man was collaborating.

When the first caveman discovered fire, one person found the wood, the other worked the flame. Centuries later, the blacksmith needed to work with the leathersmith in order to make that perfect belt. Long before the word “collaboration” or “colab” was invented, we were collaborating.

The reason is simple. As humans, we are adept at only a certain number of skill sets. Even so called “Renaissance people” are not masters at everything. Eventually we need help. There are two kinds of help: we can simply pay for the help, otherwise known as “work-for-hire,” or we can collaborate. When you collaborate, you’re basically saying, “Hey bro, I’m really good at X, but I suck at Y. You, on the other hand are really good at Y, but you’re miserable at X. If we come together, we might be able to do some amazing things!”

The result is an epiphany. A yin and a yang forming one. Taking the best of the negatives and turning them into positives. Fast forward a few more centuries and we now live in the digital/technological/informational age. Our outputs are no longer only physical objects, but they are experiences now too. People make a living by offering opinions, or by having a certain number of people “follow” and “like” them. It’s a new day where your thoughts are the commodity.

Even with all that, the basic premise of the collaboration is the same.
Nowadays a corporation will seek the services of a cool artist, influencer or designer to work with them on a product. Why?

In their latest issue, V Magazine worked with iconic fashion editor Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele on ‘The Queen of Hip Hop’ fashion spread, fusing the high and low.

“A French fashion editor, Carlyne’s pioneering stories at magazines like American and Italian Vogue laid the groundwork for what would ultimately become the epitome of “street chic.” For proof positive of this impact, look no further than the cover of American Vogue’s November 1988 issue. Photographed by Peter Lindbergh, this was not only Anna Wintour’s first issue at the helm of the magazine, but the arrival of a bold new style.

This was Parisian high style mixed with America’s street-inspired sportswear, put on blast. We feel like a lot of the ground-work that has been done by her, is being displayed on our site every day. We report about everything from a Louis Vuitton backpack, Nike sneakers to Supreme caps, simply because that is the reality of style today. Hardly anybody exclusively sticks to one specific look, but over time tends to mix things up.

Featuring the iconic BNE Water Org sticker on the cover, the magazine’s cover story is an interview with graffiti artist BNE on the creation of the BNE Water Non Profit Organization. Other artists in the new issue include Eric Elms, Massan and Pez1. Furthermore the mag features Andy Muller, Oakley, Shaniqwa Jarvis, G-Shock, Carhartt and Peanut Butter Wolf.

Once again TIME Magazine has worked with artist Shepard Fairey. He has now created the TIME Magazine Person of the Year Cover. Fairey created the cover for ‘The Protester’, which seemed like a worthy candidate for a year worth of reporting. Other finalists this year included Kate Middleton, Paul Ryan, Admiral William McRaven, Ai Weiwei and Gabby Giffords, who were all featured in the issue as well.

Lindsay Lohan’s Playboy cover has leaked, revealing a shot of the actress taking on equal parts Jessica Rabbit and Marilyn Monroe. Lindsay has plans to reveal the full shoot on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on December 15. The January/February 2012 issue of Playboy will feature the full nude spread and will be available late December.
