Selectism reports about the latest limited-edition from ABSOLUT – a collaboration with one of the UK’s leading graphic artists, Jamie Hewlett of the multi-award winning Gorillaz. ABSOLUT LONDON celebrates the vibrant cultural city, capturing London’s creativity and rich style heritage in a unique bottle design.

Designed by London creative and visionary Jamie Hewlett, the bottle is a unique take on London’s style and fashion pioneers over the past 200 years. Set against a London backdrop, the bottle introduces key characters from the past who have influenced and shaped London’s present fashion scene. The seven characters encapsulate the city’s diverse heritage, spanning the ages from Dickensian and 18th Century Dandy, through to Pinstripe gent, 60’s chick, SKA , Punk and 80’s Casual.

ABSOLUT London will be launching in-store on 1st March in Selfridges and Harvey Nichols and then to general retailers from 1st April.

Most of you might have heard already about the new .xxx domains for pornography websites. Advertising agency M&C Saatchi has now produced a pretty cheeky and fun print advertising campaign for the new domains, entitled ‘Porn is moving to .XXX’.

Completed by designers Rosan Bosch and Rune Fjord in 2010, the open-plan LEGO PMD office in Billund, Denmark incorporates block-like display stands, model-building tables and a library of Lego pieces to create a playful working environment where fun and creativity reign supreme. The idea is that through the physical design, the children’s fantasy worlds – where imagination reigns free – become part of the everyday, creating the optimal space to create new toys for LEGO fans around the world.

For the seventh consecutive year, Coca-Cola has a new edition of the bottle dedicated to the world of the night: the now famous Club Coke. In 2012, the musical artist David Guetta has been entrusted the design of this collector bottle.

The result is a “David Guetta Coca-Cola” aluminum bottle, in classic red and many photo-luminescent details that will allow the bottle to live day and especially at night. We were bigger fans of previous Club Coke collaborations with Mika and Justice & So-Me, but Guetta fans will certainly be into it. The bottle is now in stock at colette.

In an interesting new project Italian illustrator Anna Utopia Giordano remixes known alcohol brand bottles with iconic toy brands. The result is Barbie Vodka, Lego Rum, Fisher Price Whiskey, Nintendo Gin, Disney Champaign and Marvel Martini.

Today we come across the amazing ‘Honest Logos’ series by Swedish graphic designer Viktor Hertz. Some of the most iconic brand logos have been remixed by Hertz, now giving an ‘honest’ opinion about the actual product and tells it how it is. Everybody from Nokia (here above) to Facebook, Nintendo, Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks and Walt Disney, is included in the series.

We came across a pretty cool visual history of the bat suit of Batman. Created by Benjamin Andre Moore, the designer thought it would be interesting to showcase visually the different iterations of the suit that took place between 1939 and 2012. The changes include comic, TV, movies and theaters.

Typography experts House Industries have recently worked with Hermès Japan on some beautiful type based window installations. Entirely worked out of wood, they present an Hermès horse display, as well as letters.

“The windows feature interlocking House Industries letterforms cut from solid cedar wood. A carousel-style horse (detail above) has an in-built mechanism so that the piece moves in a cantering motion. An additional 12 smaller installations feature more letterforms.”

Yesterday ahead of Art Basel Miami, design fair Design Miami opened its doors for the preview day, showcasing the work of exhibitors from around the globe.

“Among this year’s highlights are a solo exhibition of the work by architect, sculptor, inventor and morphologist Dr. Haresh Lalvani at Moss Gallery, Studio Job’s Containers II series at VIVID Gallery, a site-specific installation by Designer of the Year Award winner David Adjaye, and Erwin Redl’s installation Crystal Matrix II at Swarovski Crystal Palace. As part of the show’s series of satellite exhibitions, the Miami Design District presents in collaboration with the Buckminster Fuller Foundation, utopian architect Fuller’s 1970s Fly’s Eye Dome alongside Lord Norman Foster’s reconstructed Dymaxion car.”

Some of you might have seen the recent big screen adaption of Marvel’s Captain America. While the story might not have been the strongest, the vehicle design of the movie was truly amazing. Here we take a closer look at the creations for the movie by Daniel Simon.

“Lead Vehicle Designer Daniel Simon stepped out of his comfort zone to create vehicles with a believable look of the 40ies. ‘Simplicity’ was the main input given to Simon on how to translate the scripted vehicles into unique movie vehicles. Between November 2009 and June 2010 Simon created seven machines hand in hand with Heinrichs and Johnston at Marvel Studios in Manhattan Beach, Los Angeles. Intense research of both historically correct engineering and the Marvel Comic universe was part of every days work. Director Johnston – a blessed designer of Star Wars fame – guided Simon through the endless possibilities and variations, to find vehicles that could have truly existed, fulfill their purpose in the film’s story and be feasible for manufacturing on set.”

On the Island of Omishima, Japanese architect Toyo Ito has completed his eponymous Toyo Ito Architecture Museum, the first ever Japanese museum dedicated to the work of an individual architect. The angular steel structure is sculpted to mimic the deck of a ship as it sits on a seaside ledge overlooking Seto Inland Sea, providing scenic views and cool breezes for the museum patrons. The exterior architecture directly translates to the interior design, which is wrapped in birch wood and is left minimalistic in decor.

Revolver Cover: No lines nor boxes on the pages of this notebook to limit your creativity. Use the wide space to figure out a plan in reaching your targets/dreams/goals in life.

From Lilsnob – “For Halloween, Laika House artist Katie Mello has created the ultimate costume for her dog Bones; a Starwars inspired AT-AT suit.

To create the costume, Katie first had to make a foam replica of Bones as to minimize the fitting on the actual dog. She than created a special hand made “speed suite” patterned after a pair of pajamas the dog wore at night. The suit was than painted to resemble the All Terrain Armored Transport.

The body is made from foam sheets that hardly weigh anything. Once painted, Katie hand sewed a lining into the body to pad and secure it to the dog. Finally, she made little feet covers out of yogurt cups, and voila! He looks straight out of Star Wars.”

Curated puts us onto a new exhibit from KAWS coming in February 2012 at Atlanta’s High Museum. Given that the show is still about 5 months away, no need to mark your calendar just yet, as you are sure to hear more about the exhibition as the opening approaches down the road. In addition to being treated to a new body of work, visitors can also hang around to watch KAWS in action as he prepares a giant site-specific mural that will come in at a whopping 22-feet high. Also, the giant companion sculpture from 2010 is slated to make an appearance; with that and the giant mural, this show is shaping up to be one of the artist’s most memorable.

Have you guys seen the new adidas Laces R&D building? If not here is a look at the Kada Wittfield Architecture designed structure that is now up and running at corporate headquarters in Herzogenaurach, Germany. The name “Laces” pertains to the design of the building in which walkways within the building connect and criss-cross with each other in a networked pattern. An excerpt from the press release sheds more light. (Images and info: Collabcubed.)

The building forms a loop. Suspended walkways cross the atrium space, “lacing” the building’s structure together like the laces of a sports shoe. The walkways connect individual departments within the building complex, making for greater proximity and preventing the disruptive effect of people walking through offices.

After the Daft Punk inspired Club Coke 2011 bottles launched earlier this year, we present today the official Daft Punk x Coca Cola collaboration bottles.

The classic Coke glass bottle comes with gold and silver Coca-Cola logo application and matching Daft Punk bottle crown sitting on top. The silver one is actually 925 silver and the gold one features 18k yellow gold. Hand finished the bottles are sitting in a box designed by Daft Punk. The bottles were of course inspired by the helmets of the electronic duo. The signed box set is limited to only 20 sets worldwide. This collaboration far surpasses the previous ones with Mika, Karl Lagerfeld and Justice/So Me.

You will be able to win the box set from September 30th until December 31st 2011 on daftcoke.com.
