Back in March of 2009, Mishka opened their flagship store – 350 Broadway – in the heart of burgeoning South Williamsburg. Since then Mishka’s digs have at times hosted a variety of activities including art shows, various parties, crazy sample sales, celebrity drop-ins, and bitter impromptu Street Fighter 2 competitions. 350 Broadway went from being Mishka’s brick and mortar shop, to being one of Brooklyn’s hot spots.
Exactly 344 days after, Mishka will be opening their sister store in Los Angeles and they hope to accomplish in Echo Park what 350 Broadway did in Brooklyn. Mishka LA will open its doors at 1547 Echo Park Blvd. on February 20th with a clear mission to be a part of the growing transformation of the Echo Park neighborhood.
Designed with the same sensibilities of 350 Broadway, Mishka LA features familiar similarities with the bright purple neon lights and the hallmark Adam Wallacavage octopus chandelier. And while the intent was to make Mishka LA distinct it still feels connected to the Bear Cub’s Brooklyn roots. Keep watch for Mishka Tokyo later this year.

Once again Comme des Garcons has worked with Moncler. This time they did not only collaborate on jackets, but they will also present a special retail concept in Tokyo. The same space that previously housed the CdG x Vogue and CdG x Louis Vuitton pop-up spaces, will be taken over by the Comme des Garcons Moncler 365 store.
“The store, which is to open March 25, will carry a mix of black merchandise from both brands as well as an exclusive range of cobranded pieces, a spokeswoman said, without elaborating on details of the partnership.”

Referring to the German word “Zivilist”, Berliners Alex Flach (photo editor of Lodown Magazine and Monster Mag) and Andreas Hesse (editor of “untitled” and Lodown) are paying homage to the former political status of West-Berlin when Wall City was governed by Western Allies and West-Berlin residents weren’t forced to do military service in the Bundeswehr because no German army was allowed there. Civilian by law, a nice privilege. Meanwhile West-Berlin’s unique constitutional status has changed. Basically, since then, everything related to Berlin has changed.
Civilist is a store, a gallery, a showroom. It’s a social room constantly changing from a store to gallery while transitioning the store to the basement or temporarily using the space for video installations, fashion shows, concerts and as a showroom. A call for civil disobedience towards general expectations and rules how to run a store or a gallery.
The store introduces carefully chosen brands such as HUF, Ransom, aNYthing, Norse, Fucking Awesome, DQM, Altamont, PAM, Nike SB and Vans Syndicate, alongside skateboards by Girl and Chocolate, publications by O.H.W.O.W. and PAM and other select/vintage pieces.
