This Friday, November 13th Arizona’s High Point will be celebrating their 2 year anniversary. As AZ’s sole Acapulco Gold retailer, the NYC label hooked up an exclusive set of tees and a matching snapback cap, flipping the brand’s High Post script and “Always Strong, Never Wrong” slogan to fit the shop’s name and achievement. Available only at High Point.

After an initial preview of some of the caps of the new collection, we can preview today the entire Acapulco Gold Fall 2009 Line. The New York brand presents a large line-up of t-shirts, which is complemented with plaid shirts, crewneck sweaters, hoodies, 5-panel caps and mesh caps this season. All in all a solid offering of classic graphics.

A little while back, our friends at Acapulco Gold went to the White House in Washington, DC to play a game of S.K.A.T.E. Today they released a video of the event. Sit back, relax and enjoy.

“Here is an idea for you – What if we get a permit to skate in front of the White House? I don’t mean get your friends together and skate by the White House. I mean call up the Washington D.C. Department of Transportation and the US Secret Service and say “Hey, we want to throw an event called The Pursuit of Happiness to help promote physical activity, health and happiness through skateboarding. Oh and we want to film it right in front of the White House”. Next thing you know we get a call from President Obama himself who tells us, “Listen, this is a great idea. I will personally make sure this goes through. Mi casa su casa”. Ok so maybe that didn’t happen, but we’re almost 10% positive he had some say in getting us the permit.

So now that we had permission to do what we want, let’s jam a bunch of skaters from NYC into a van and make the 4hr trip (7hrs with traffic + rest stops) and play a few games of S.K.A.T.E. Winners had the choice of a limited edition Presidential Seal deck or a limited edition White House Seal deck. It couldn’t have been better with the White House in the background, the snipers on the roof and a crowd of tourists and onlookers cheering for all of the skaters. Not to mention the 3 to 4 different groups of protesters yelling and playing music all around us. Democracy at its best. Tony Hawk got to sneak a ride in the White House, but we put on a game of S.K.A.T.E. for a few hours right in front on Pennsylvania Avenue.

We get a first detailed look at the New Era cap offering of the Acapulco Gold Fall 2009 Collection. Once again the New York brand manages to bring something new, yet classic to the table. We always liked their timeless approach to design, which is also the case in this season’s line-up. Several new designs come in several colorways and will be released in stores soon.

Acapulco Gold gets together with Vans on the Moda Hi. The sneaker looks a bit like a mix of the Sk8 Hi and the Half Cab and features a velcro strap, which features the Acapulco Gold logo embossed. Actually they were inspired by the classic adidas Rod Laver and wanted to translate those colors onto the Moda Hi. The upper is made of suede and leather and hiking boot laces were added to the sneaker. Overall the outcome is a solid looking sneaker, that is unfortunately only coming out next year.

New York based Acapulco Gold rolls out the summer headwear with four clean offerings. AG stays true to their aesthetic, mixing classic styles with modern accents such as polka dots and camo. Both New Era and mesh-back styles are presented. The A to the G hat (top right) is clever, as it can appear as either an “a” or a “G” depending on how to you look at it. Now available at Acapulco Gold retailers including Hall of Fame.

Acapulco Gold is not a brand that does many collabs, so you know when they do one it has to be for the right reasons. “When we first met Afra a few years back we were immediately struck by his authenticity. Respected the world around, Afra is the type of dude who can walk into a Bed Stuy housing project and start a cipher with kids at the park without batting an eyelash. Blessed with the gift of Gab, Afra can mimic any beat you call out to him, plus he has the ability to chill in Shibuya as he does in the hood. He studied under Rahzel from the Roots when he first came to NYC at 19. Now in his late 20’s Afra is poised to drop his newest LP this summer.” Using the trademark Incredible Beatbox Band bear logo, AG added their usual styling and came up with a solid fitted. These caps are currently not for sale.

We give you a more detailed look at the Acapulco Gold Fall/Winter 2008 sweaters and caps. All sweaters are 100% cotton and made to the standards that AG is known for.  First up is the tone on tone camo print zip up hood.  Navy, Heather Gray and Black make up this group. Next is the twill crest crewneck.  A classic look that you can wear for years to come.  Building on the collaboration between AG and Post O’Alls comes this workwear inspired zip up hood.  Chain stitch embroidery to pay heritage to they way it used to be done.

Along with the sweaters, Acapulco Gold has also released this week a strong line-up of both fitted and 5-panel caps.
