No stranger to collaborations, Ace Hotel has added another great partner when they worked alongside Beams on this collection of goods that dropped this week. A few of the items were also done in collaboration with Buzz Rickson making this all the more interesting. Highlights include a deck jacket, chambray work shirt, and cinch back chinos, but there is also a small range of accessories, too. The collection is now available at Ace’s online store.

In their latest collaboration, Incase teams up with the Ace Hotel. The five-piece collection includes a Duffel Bag, Shoulder Bag, 15” Sleeve, Portfolio for iPad 2 and Snap Case for iPhone 4. Fusing Ace Hotel design aesthetics and Incase expertise, the collection is “constructed of durable Martexin Original Wax textiles, the items in the collection have a seasoned character designed to age expressively.”

September 2011 the collection is exclusive to Ace Hotel New York. As of October it will be available at all Ace Hotel locations and in the Incase webshop.

Ever since its opening in 2009, staff at Ace Hotel New York have been wearing exclusive versions of the Converse Chuck Taylor All Star shoe. On their third iteration, Converse and Ace introduce a black, waxed canvas and navy toed Bosey style which includes rugged boot detailing. The statement “You Are Here” is printed on the foot bed – a sentiment which also appears on the Ace NYC entrance rain mat. Limited to 300 pairs, the shoe will be available for purchase March 30, 2011 at shop.acehotel.com and in-store at Ace Hotel locations in New York, Seattle and Portland.

As many of you will already know, Canadian label wings + horns makes custom bathrobes exclusively for the Ace Hotel. “The robes are a cross between an old-style boxing robe — a nod to the Ace NYC building’s boxing history –- and a modern-day hooded sweatshirt. They’re made from super comfortable french terry in Boulder Grey and have two front pockets and a big hood with a custom Ace x w+h label.” The good news is, they’re now selling them online! For the second time The Ace Hotel teams up with Converse. Entitled the Chuck Taylor All Star Bosey, the high top sneaker comes with a canvas upper and rubber outer sole and are an update to the classic Chuck Taylor with design cues taken from vintage wading boots that Converse created for U.S. military basic training way back in the 1940s. Limited to 300 pairs, the sneakers will go on sale this week at all three Ace Hotel locations and online here.

Opening Ceremony will soon be opening their second New York location, inside the new Ace Hotel. The store will carry selected pieces from the collections and designers also carried in the main store. More importantly it will also carry a selection of traveler’s needs. OC presents their “Twice a Day” series, consisting of a toiletry travel kit, filled with a toothbrush, Colgate toothpaste, a tube squeezer, and dental floss on a keychain all kept in a clear Opening Ceremony travel case.

Opening Ceremony is about to open their 4th store. After New York, Los Angeles and Tokyo, they will be opening another retail outlet in NYC, inside the newly opened Ace Hotel New York. We like the fact, that they will not open just another store, carrying the same goods from their Downtown location, rather they will be offering travellers needs, next to some fashion and accessories. You will find anything from toothpaste to candy in the store, of course well sourced by the OC team. It’s a gathering place for neighbors and guests alike. Ace Hotel has officially partnered with Levi Strauss & Co. for Suite 501, a brand-themed room at its Palm Springs location – intended to feel as comfortable as slipping on your favorite pair of 501s. As you can see in the photo above, the room features “a denim upholstered headboard, Levi’s pillowcases and artwork from Levi’s most recent campaign, shot by Ryan McGinley. The Walt Whitman poem “Go Forth,” the focus of Levi’s recent marketing campaign, is painted on a denim tapestry. The curated ephemera vibe matches the hotel’s rustic chic campground aesthetic; canvas covered walls, salvaged furniture, Native America throws and portable record player in every suite.” Suites run from $399 to $459 per night. Selectism put us on to these boots Dr. Marten’s worked up for the Ace Hotel staff out in NYC. “The Ace Hotel in NYC knows how to keep its staff proper. Following up further on the uniforms we covered last Friday, we now have a look at the custom 1460 Dr. Martens boot for Ace Hotel employees. The eight eyelet boot has a “subtle” custom leather embossment of a skeleton key on the rise.”

The Ace Hotel Palm Springs, Arkitip and Generic Surplus got together to produce a special sneaker and tote bags for the hotel.

“The Ace Hotel Palm Springs Shoe and Tote was designed and developed from the collaborative process between Arkitip, the Ace Hotel and Generic Surplus. In creating a shoe for the Ace Hotel we sought to capture the essence of Palm Springs and the eclectic style of the hotel grounds. We developed a new mesh material that’s breathable for the desert heat, quick drying and non slip for the pool side servers. Considering the Palm Springs environment and the design elements of the hotel, the creation of this new mesh material lends itself perfect to manage water and the desert heat.

The Ace Tote, made out of this same mesh material, was then added as the perfect satchel to carry all the daily essentials from your room to the pool.

The Ace Palm Springs Shoe and Tote is the first in an ongoing collaborative project between Arkitip and Generic Surplus. We aim to to develop objects and products with unique partners from around the world.”

Celebrating the opening of the new Ace Hotel Palm Springs, they have worked with Arkitip and artist Evan Hecox, who created a series of silk screen prints, around the topic of Palm Springs. Not only do the works hang in the rooms of the new hotel, but you are also able to buy them right off of the wall.

“Evan Hecox bases his work on his observations of urban environments and the people that inhabit them, combining the eye of a photographer with his love of drawing, painting and printmaking. Hecox spent a week photographing the Palm Springs area, and drew upon those images and experiences to create the body of work that is exhibited at Ace Hotel.

In taking on Palm Springs as subject matter he embraces a more organic side of his aesthetic, combining architectural forms with the unique desert landscape of the area. His attraction to old signage, vintage cars and other bits of fading American culture is perfectly suited to capturing Palm Springs. Through this series of prints he finds both the picturesque aspects and the seedier side of this unusual desert world.” Via Arkitip.

Japanese designer Takahiro Miyashita’s Fall ‘08 menswear line and Paris show draw inspiration from the Ace Hotel Portland.
At his fall 2008 menswear show in Paris on January 17, fashion designer Takahiro Miyashita of Number (N)ine unveiled an inspired collaboration with the Ace Hotel Portland.
A Northwest grunge aesthetic runs through Miyashita’s fall pieces. The show, titled “My Own Private Portland,” opened with an Ace Hotel voicemail message. Portland-made Pendleton wool blankets folded on each seat invited guests to snuggle up.
The utilitarian wool blankets are emblazoned with the Thompson elk, a historical statue located in downtown Portland. Modeled on classic Pendleton hotel blankets, they represent Portland and the collection’s vintage-Americana feel. Ace and Number (N)ine are currently collaborating to create additional products which will be released this fall. You can buy the blankets at Number (N)ine’s Manhattan flagship store, and soon they’ll be at the Ace’s forthcoming NYC outpost.  
Miyashita incorporates the Ace into his work because it exemplifies Portland: luxe but irregular, with echoes of a rough-and-tumble history. Miyashita’s nod to grunge fits with the Ace’s historical consciousness and place in a living cultural center.

In collaboration with the Uniqlo Inspired Series and Shift Magazine in Japan the Ace Hotel has commissioned 11 Northwest Artists to create T-shirt and couch cushion designs based on the theme of travel. These T-shirts are limited edition and will be sold only at Uniqlo stores in Japan, NYC, and London, and online at ut.uniqlo.com . Many of the Artists involved have also painted original murals in the rooms of the new Ace Hotel Portland.
Artists involved in the project were: Evan B Harris, Justin “Scrappers” Morrison, Sarah Gottesdiener, Brent Wick, Jeremy Pelley, Philip Iosca, Storm Tharp, Liza Reitz, Amy Ruppell , David Kaul, Shawn Wolfe.
In celebration of the launch of these t-shirts The Ace Hotel event space in Portland, OR will host an opening party and 5 day exhibition featuring original works from many of the artists on this project, and the chance to purchase the T-shirts online. The launch party is scheduled for Friday September 28th at 9:30pm and will feature live music from NW DJs and bands and a full bar. The gallery exhibit, titled “Portland ♥’s Japan – The Art of Travel,” will remain up from September 28th through October 2nd and most of the works will be for sale by the artists.
