Tradeshow season is upon us once again, and here at Highsnobiety that means a new print issue. Issue 4 of Highsnobiety Magazine features Rick Genest (bka Zombie Boy) on the cover dressed in clothing from Acronym’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection.

Inside the issue you’ll find our usual assortment of brand features, interviews, product previews and editorial shoots spanning a range of topics from fashion, art and music to architecture, interiors and cars. Exclusive content from White Mountaineering, Stussy Deluxe, CASH CA, Vans Vault, adidas Originals are just a few highlights you’ll find within.

The issue is now available exclusively in Berlin as part of Berlin Fashion Week. Look for wider availability through select retailers in the coming weeks.

Here comes a both interesting and unexpected new collaboration from Berlin brands Uslu Airlines and Acronym. One known for its fashionable nail polish and the other for its incredibly details technical outerwear, what a match.

Two special ops nail polish colors were developed for the project – matte black and matte military green. Acronym contributed a special bag to the project, along with a small nail polish pouch. Look out for a release of the special pack at colette in Paris, November 2011.

This week Acronym released their new Fall/Winter 2011 Collection. Next to the usual hardshell Gore-Tex outerwear, that the brand has become best know for, as well as the excellent luggage collection, they have introduced some new soft goods. The most interesting new piece for us is the SS-CP1 Cloak, an interesting and very old school item being interpreted by Acronym this season.

The new Acronym collection is now in stock at Firmament.

Not long ago we presented the new Stone Island Shadow Fall/Winter 2011 Collection, designed by Acronym designer Errolson Hugh. In the video here above, he introduces us to the new collection.

“He lends himself to be the hero of this video introducing us to the PARSEQ GRID, the performance system at the base of the Shadow Project since its inception and the FW collection pieces, explaining concepts/design/technical features/functionalities, all thought for a perfect symbiosis between item, environment and wearer. Nothing is left to chance, as in the best Shadow tradition. All shown (and worn) in this video.”

Acronym has become synonymous for innovative high end technical clothing over the years. Errolson Hugh, the founder, has built a strong team of creatives around himself, now not only handling Acronym, but also various other design jobs, including the Stone Island Shadow range. We sat down with Johanna Schneider and talked to her about life, work, Acronym and sewing on buttons.

If you were someone else, who would you be ?

A pro surfer! When I was young I had a deep relationship with nature. I spent hours walking, exploring, feeling, tasting, singing and dancing with the nature.

This gave me total freedom.The first time I caught a wave, I felt so close to nature like I did in those moments. I felt the same naïve euphoria and closeness to the nature, like i was small. If I would have the requirements, I’d be a surfer.

Did you ever think that you moved into the wrong kind of work ?

No. I’m still in the process of realizing that the work I’m doing is exactly what I always wanted to do. And that I finally ended up able to express myself and my ideas of fashion freely. It happens that I drive to my work in the morning and when I enter the acronym studio, I say to myself, “Hey that’s you, being a part of the crew,” still realizing. I have to say that to myself sometimes. and after all the hard work, having the prototypes in your hands makes it all worth it.

One of our favorite new pieces in the Acronym Spring/Summer 2011 Collection is the Laptop Tote Bag. The bag holds up to a 15 inch laptop in the middle of the bag. Next to some functional smaller departments on the inside and pockets on the exterior, the most interesting other feature has to be the cycling strap. The bag is now in stock at The Glade (and Firmament).

We continue to preview pieces of the new Acronym Spring/Summer 2011 Collection. After showcasing the first video “Lightest Fastest Deffest Baddest” yesterday, we take a look today at the new Acronym Sets. The first Acronym set was created over 10 years ago and today the brand follows up with 4 new ones, once again fusing functionality and design into uniquely packaged sets.

“Both KIT-001 and SET-1 > 4 are about concentration. Fillerlessness. When we began we had limited resources. There simply wasn’t enough money to finance an entire collection the way we had envisioned it. To get around this roadblock we switched the ratios. Instead of one idea spread over many products, we took many ideas and fused them into a single unit. Years later, it’s kind of the same situation. With the difference that we’ve put everything that we’ve learned in the interim into the new items (the retail prices of the new sets are, for example, all *less* than the wholesale price of the original Kit).

In both cases we are/were also pushing limits. Not simply ‘packaging’ things together, but looking at the format of a set as an enabler to do things that can’t be done with traditional stand alone products. Things as mundane as packing and readiness for travel. Or entirely new ways to construct and ‘operate’ pockets (as with the swing-wing 3A-MF1 in SET-3). We’re always trying to do things that haven’t been done before. Learning and exploring being some of our primary motivators.”

Acronym presents a new visual entitled “Slight Return”. Compared to other videos that we see from the technical brand every season, this one takes a more artistic approach and is much less product focussed. Shot and directed by Ken Tonio-Yamamoto, we love the fusion of the female ninja and the comic visuals. Towards the end of the short film you also get a quick look at the two founders of the brand and their Munich based archive. Enjoy!

The latest delivery from Errolson Hugh’s technical outerwear line Acronym has just arrived at The-Glade. As we’ve seen in numerous previews, the Fall/Winter 2010 collection boasts a wide array garments featuring the technical performance (3XDRY, Gore-Tex Paclite, etc) meets superior style aesthetic we’ve come to adore. The Suspensor Holsters and Gravity Pockets are definitely features worth exploring. A re-up on a number of the label’s popular bags and accessories is also a welcome move from Firmament/The-Glade.
