Video: “Mourir Auprès De Toi”Animated Film by Spike Jonze & Olympia Le-Tan

Spike Jonze: Mourir Auprès de Toi on Nowness.com.

After a making of preview, we can present today the full short animated video that celebrated filmmaker Spike Jonze created in collaboration with French designer Olympia Le-Tan – “Mourir Auprès De Toi”.

“Designer Olympia Le-Tan’s embroidered clutch-bags spring to life in director Spike Jonze’s tragicomic stop-motion animation Mourir Auprès de Toi (To Die By Your Side). On a shelf in famed Parisian bookstore Shakespeare and Company, the star-crossed love story of a klutzy skeleton and his flame-haired amour plays out amidst Le-Tan’s illustrations of iconic first-edition book covers. “It’s such a beautiful and romantic place,” offers Le-Tan of the antiquarian bookstore. “The perfect setting for our story!” The project started after Jonze asked for a Catcher in the Rye embroidery to put on his wall and the plucky Le-Tan asked for a film in return. Enlisting French filmmaker Simon Cahn to co-direct, the team wrote the script between Los Angeles and Paris over a six month period, before working night and day animating the 3,000 pieces of felt Le-Tan had cut by hand. “I love getting performances from, telling stories about and humanizing things that aren’t human,” said Jonze of working with Le-Tan’s characters. After spending five years adapting Maurice Sendak’s Where The Wild Things Are, Jonze’s recent shorts include robot love story I’m Here and an inspired G.I. Joe-starring video for The Beastie Boys. “A short is like a sketch,” he says. “You can have an idea or a feeling and just go and do it.” Here the iconic director reveals his creative process to writer Maryam L’Ange.”

Read an interview with Jonze about the project over at Nowness.

“Yes, Darcel sets off today on an intercontinental trip to cover the spring 2011 catwalks exclusively for NOWNESS. First stop is New York Fashion Week, whose preeminent trendsetters—Ralph Lauren, Tavi, Alexander Wang, André Leon Talley, Freja Erichsen, Marc Jacobs, Kim Hastreiter, Alexander Wang and, of course, Anna Wintour—star in today’s Brady Bunch-style introductory film. From tomorrow, as the shows begin to kick off, our ovoid friend will be reporting from the fashionable front line, delivering a daily Darcelism on his trials, which will available exclusively on NOWNESS and can be reached by clicking on the appropriate link in the “Today’s Stories” panel, or the the banner at the top of this page. No Mas NYC x Ice Cube - "Straight Outta LA" Animation and "LA Raiders" Bags

Sports inspired brand No Mas NYC worked on an interesting project. Together with Ice Cube they created the animation for the documentary “Straight Outta LA”, which will air on ESPN tonight at 8pm.

“”Straight Outta LA” gets into that sweet spot of sports and culture: NWA, The LA Raiders, gangster rap and actual gangs, starter jackets, corduroy hats, Lester Hayes, Rod Martin, Marcus Allen, The LA riots, and the madman/genius Left Coast Steinbrenner of football–Al Davis. This is about as interesting as pro football can get.” (Chris Isenberg of No Mas.

Also No Mas worked on a bag, which is produced from an original Starter LA Raiders jacket. The bag is now available in their online store.
