Thanks to DQM, we’ve got a full look at the Nike Blazer and its packaging designed by Micheal Lau for the Chinese BMX team. We spoke to Lau not long ago about the project, and learned about his background in the sport. The box finds inspiration in the BMX course itself. No surprise, one of Lau trademark designer toys finds it’s way in the package, especially cool is the trading of feet clad in the shoe for the bikes wheels. No release date yet, but keep your eyes peeled for flashes of yellow in Beijing.

lightning bolts bmx number plate exhibition - highsnobiety
Nike worked together with Bob Haro on recreating his original BMX number plate as an artist canvas. The number plate was then given to several artists, including Michael Lau, Tet from WTAPS, Greg Higgins, Lee Basford and others to create their version of the plate. The final BMX number plates were exhibited at the Nike Beijing BMX event a couple of weeks ago.
The Shadow Conspiracy crew also participated and now put a nice feature on the exhibition online. Check out the feature here.

Nike 6.0 Celebrates 4 Decades of BMX

highsnobiety - Nike 6.0 Celebrates 4 Decades of BMX
The addition of a new sport to the summer Olympic line up is always exciting. In 2004, women’s wrestling gained the support of the IOC. 2008, we see the inclusion of BMX. While the new sport of 2004 was great for the Title 9 set, BMX is another step in mainstreaming fringe sports and incorporating the "extreme" with the long standing traditional activities practiced by the Greeks.
To celebrate BMX’s move into the games, Nike 6.0 Celebrated in Bejing last week with The Lightening Bolts Art Show and BMX exhibition. Nike team riders, along with BMX legends Eddie Fiola and Brian Blyther, hit the custom built ramps. In addition, contemporary artists shared their vision and passion for the sport Among them was Michael Lau, who remembered the importance of BMX in his own childhood.
Nike also honored Bob Haro, recreating his famous number plate as an artists canvas.
See that, and more, after the jump.
