Kanye West "Through The Wire"

Following his recent tome “Glow In The Dark“, Kanye West has partnered with Academy Award-nominated animator, cartoonist, and illustrator Bill Plympton on another book release. “Through the Wire is a graphic memoir that illustrates the lyrics of twelve Kanye West songs to tell his story, from his decision to drop out of college to pursue his dreams in music, through his days spent folding chinos at the Gap while struggling at night to make a name as a producer, through the pivotal car accident that eventually set him on the course to stardom and the epiphany of realizing exactly who he had become.” The book will be released November 10th and is now available for pre-order from Amazon.

Kanye West Glow in the Dark | A Detailed Look

highsnobiety - Kanye West Glow in the Dark | A Detailed Look

As we’ve previously reported, Kanye West Glow in the Dark captures on-stage and behind-the-scenes action from Kanye’s “Glow in the Dark” tour. From Bonnaroo to Beijing (and many stops before and in between) the global voyage comes to life through the captivating photography of Nabil Elderkin. Kanye’s conceptual sketches help contextualized the finished staging, and provide a welcome complement to the action footage. Most compelling, however, are the shots of Kanye backstage both alone and with fellow performers.

The book begins with a conversation between Mr. West and Spike Jonze. Their chat covers Kanye’s reasoning for documenting the tour and delves into family and politics as well. From there, the images play out chronologically through the tour dates. Towards the end, press and listening parties for 808’s and Heartbreak fold into the story. With little text, Kanye West Glow in the Dark, is primarily about visual spectacle. The accompanying cd includes live instrumentals, which work to help flesh out the feel of the stage performance. Richer than the studio recordings, these tracks are a welcome addition.

For those of us who were unable to catch the tour, the book serves well. Until, of course, a tour video comes…

The book is published by Rizzoli and available to order through Colette.

Carhartt Presents: All City Writers by Andrea Caputo

Carhartt Presents: All City Writers by Andrea Caputo

The title “ALL CITY WRITERS” by Andrea Caputo describes a vast research project on the writing movement, focussing particularly on the process of its exportation from New York to the whole of Europe during the 80s. International crews, fanzine networks, inter-rail traveling are, among others, key chapters in which writers have become protagonists.

The whole project developed from the consideration that many of the stories that writers experience are just lost in time. Other than the pictures of their pieces, the adventures, and sensations a writer lives through often just disappear like so many other bits of oral culture. For that reason, “ALL CITY WRITERS” contains the largest contribution of texts ever published in this field. “ALL CITY WRITERS” tries to document the evolution and the consequences of a counter cultural phenomenon that over the course of a few decades provoked a change in the aesthetics and the rules of communication of modern day society.

Since Carhartt has been a steady supporter of editorial projects focussing on graffiti, be it in the form of books, magazines, and fanzines, it was only natural to collaborate on “ALL CITY WRITERS” and to support its distribution.

“ALL CITY WRITERS” will be released on 7 November accompanied by a press conference as well as a exhibition and a release party in Milan. The book will be available at selected bookshops and Carhartt retailers and of course at all Carhartt Stores. A European exhibition series with the participation of “ALL CITY WRITERS” contributors at selected Carhartt Stores will follow in early 2010.

A look inside the book follows after the jump.
