The Hundreds x Garfield Exhibition Recap

The Hundreds x Garfield Exhibition Recap

Last night The Hundreds opened their Garfield Exhibition, the official celebration of their collaboration with the iconic comic character, that we reported about in an exclusive feature here.

While the collection impressed with a full range of clothing, sneakers, caps, beanies, skateboard decks and more, we can safely say that the event last night was the most impressive part about this project, bringing together an incredible line-up of artists, who all got inspired by Garfield and contributed a beautiful line-up of artworks to the exhibition. From Buff Monster, Bigfoot, Lance Mountain to Mark Dean Veca, the exhibition was filled with high profile artworks that of course sold out very quickly. People were lining up around the block to get into the exhibition. We have been reporting about this so-called streetwear scene for a while now and we do not know many brands that started right around the same time that we did and can pull off such a collaborative project. This is something that one usually only sees from large corporate brands. So, congrats to The Hundreds for this incredible turn-out. Jim Davis was of course also there and signed the entire evening product for his fans.

Now head on after the jump, check out lots of images of the paintings, The Hundreds x Garfield vinyl toys, the crowd and more.

Curated chatted to Buff Monster briefly ahead of his forth solo showing at Corey Helford Gallery (8522 Washington BLVD, Culver City, CA), entitled Beyond the Pink. “The exhibition opens on September 4 and runs to September 22, 2010. The new work caps off an exciting year for the LA-based artist, which has included participation in the “Art from the New World” group exhibition and having a painting acquired by the Bristol City Museum for its permanent collection.”

highsnobiety - Buff Monster: The Sweetest Thing @ Cory Helford Gallery
On August 23, Culver City’s Corey Helford Gallery will welcome a new selection of work from LA street artist Buff Monster. Originally from Hawaii, his influences range from heavy metal to ice cream. There is ample servings of anime blended in too. The resulting work questions the binary of cute and creepy. Happy looking figures (often composed of odd elements) are ensconced in geometric shapes. Pink is a favorite color.
Throughout his career, Buff Monster has been featured in an array of publications, including Juxtapoz. He’s also worked with a number of brands, just recently Official on a hat we featured on these pages.
"The Sweetest Thing" will be on view until September 2.

They’ll also soon be launching a submissions section on the website, so that any artist will have the opportunity to participate in the project.
Definitely an interesting new project. If you want to pimp your ride a little and want it to look a bit different from what there is out there for the moment, you should definitely check out Infectious.

22 Flavors by Life Lounge

RTEmagicC Picture 1 11.png 22 Flavors by Life Lounge
Here a pretty cool new project by Life Lounge22 Flavors. They brought together 22 artists from around the globe to design t-shirts. Here the exact run down.
“Just like a fat kid trying to suck choc chip ice off his own chest, we¹ve decided to combine two of our great loves in life: food and t-shirts. To get the ice cream ball rolling, we’ve asked 22 of the sweetest artists and designers from around the world to come up with their own t-shirt design based on one of our 22 delicious flavours. Each design will then be printed onto 22 limited edition tees and made available exclusively for 22 day right here on lifelounge.com. And if that wasn¹t sweet enough, proceeds from all sales will then go to charity to help feed the homeless.”
Part of the line-up are Mishka, Wemoto, Stefan Marx, Buff Monster and others. Make sure to check back once the t-shirts drop!
