Burn Rubber has once again gotten together with New Balance to bring you two exclusive pairs of MT580’s. This time around Burn Rubber pays homage to the Blue Collar and White Collar workers of their home town of Detroit. For Spring 2012, New Balance once again worked with Burn Rubber on a pack of sneakers. They chose the 580, a running shoe that is especially popular in Asia, for the collaboration. As part of the pack the sneaker comes in two very solid colorways, using multiple materials on the upper and featuring an overall well balanced premium look. The pack consists of a blue collar and a white collar colorway.

The Distinct Life and Burn Rubber got together with Mike Posner to create the official uniforms for his North American tour. The jacket and cardigan feature various logos including Mike’s infinity logo and the Burn Rubber Chef. The jacket’s most notable feature is the chenille brain logo on the back that represents his band the “Brain Trust”. Tour dates can be found here.

For the first time New Balance worked with a US boutique on a collaboration on the MT580 sneaker. Burn Rubber was given the chance to give the running shoe its own distinct look.
“Historically the New Balance MT580 is a shoe released out of Asia with various collaborators. This marks the first time that the shoe has been collaborated on and brought through by the New Balance America team.
In business since 2004 Burn Rubber is Metro Detroit’s first premium sneaker boutique. The Burn Rubber name is a play on a phrase from the Motor City’s car culture. The name came from the comparison of the use of sneakers on a person to the use of tires on a car. Burn Rubber is known throughout their community as the place to get hard to find, limited edition sneakers and clothing.
Burn Rubber made the shoe their own by applying a shop colored theme and utilizing materials in unique ways. The custom designed argyle pattern that lines the inside of the shoe was created to incorporate all of the company’s branded colors. A reflective 3M material, originally developed to reflect light for night running, was also used throughout the mostly gray shoe to give the design another dimension. The majority of the shoe design is comprised of New Balance’s premium nubuck and gray mesh, and completed with a touch of patent leather and a classic gum sole.
As one of the most recognizable aspects of the Burn Rubber brand they have chosen to include the shop’s mascot on the hangtag provided with each shoe. The Chef, originally created to be “just another T-Shirt design”, ended up taking on a life of its own. The photo shoot for this project was done from the perspective of a chef and was intended to bring light to the story of Burn Rubber’s popular logo & style.”
The Burn Rubber MT580 will be available on November 26th at www.burnrubberdetroit.com and at Burn Rubber’s Royal Oak Location (202 W Fourth Street, Royal Oak, MI 48067).

Detroit’s Burn Rubber boutique and Acapulco Gold have teamed up to create the “Detroit Riots” collaborative capsule. Both companies are known for creating designs that start conversations, create debates and educate the masses all at the same time. The Detroit Riot series was inspired by the city’s Riots of 1967, that occurred as a direct result of many of the ills that are plaguing our society today like a troubled economy, high unemployment rate, police brutality, dissatisfaction with social conditions and the rapid population decline in many urban areas. The Detroit Riots series brings light to how far we’ve come as a society but also shows how close we are to repeating history if issues are not only addressed but corrected.
Acapulco Gold recently created their “Spit” line of t-shirts, during the bank bailout fiasco that brought light to the financial and insurance giants who were going under due to predatory lending, which occurred in many urban areas. Some of their most popular designs were the plays on AIG, Merrill Lynch and Goldman Sachs.
Burn Rubber and Acapulco Gold understand the corruption that occurs in big business and through this “urban renewal project” they are bringing light to the people who have felt disenfranchised for years.
To commemorate this collaboration Burn Rubber and Acapulco Gold reached out to eight emcees (Ro Spit, One Be Lo, T3, Phatboy Chef, Marv Won, Buff 1, Fatt Father, and Fat Ray) out of Michigan to contribute a verse to a song produced by Black Milk and inspired by the Riots of 67. In addition to the song they have also created a website (detroitriots.burnrubberdetroit.com) where you will find ring tones, wallpapers and more information about the project that releases on December 26, 2009.
Detroit sneakers and clothing boutique Burn Rubber got together with G-Shock to collaborate on a watch. The at first classic looking G-Shock, comes in black and features the stores logo on the strap and on the watch case. They embossed their logos, making it all very subtle and added an all black screen to the watch. Via Frank The Butcher.
