We give you a first look at the Cassette Playa Fall/Winter 2009 Collection, entitled “Believe in Flesh + Metal”, inspired by Norse mythology, cyborgs and mmorpg’s.

The Cassette Playa Fall/Winter 2009 Collection is split into two parts – a diffusion collection, entitled CP++, which features screen printed tees, transfer tees, embroidered polo shirts and jackets alongside heavy weight crews and hooded sweats. Everything is monotone. The second part consists of limited edition digital print pieces from the mainline Cassette Playa line, “I dedicate this battle to Odin!”. This season is more of a capsule line comprising Cassette Playa cult oversized dp tees, plus a silk quilted dp parka and silk dp dress shirt. Graphics are as usual wild and mix all kinds of media, unseen from any other brand out there, continuing to set the UK brand apart. Signature Cassette Playa faces are built from sci fi shapes and symbols derived from Viking jewelery and mythology. This seasons digital print is composed of computer generated 3D imagery and subverted video footage.

Earlier this week we reported about the collaboration of Cassette Playa from London and Fruition store from Las Vegas on a couple of t-shirts. The t-shirts are now available in the Fruition online store. Cassette Playa’s own Carrie Munden is modeling them for you and just like you expect from the brand, all the t-shirts are graphic and color rich.

With the release of the Cassette Playa x Nike Blazer collaboration coming up on December 13th, Nike has gotten together with Carri Munden, the designer behind Cassette Playa. The video interview gives some background information on the collaboration and on Cassette Playa in general.

The Cassette Playa x Nike Blazer will be released globally next week. For the occasion the UK brand has created a special installation at the 21 Mercer Nike Sportswear flagship store. In true Cassette Playa style, lots of color, funky characters and of course the sneakers, are on display. Via Carri Munden.

Bringing together the best of Nike’s 36-year sports heritage with the most innovative designers currently infiltrating the sportswear design scene, Nike’s design team has combined with UK-based creative icon Carri Mundane to give the iconic Blazer a Cassette Playa-style remastering.

The Cassette Playa Blazer was first created for Carri’s Spring/Summer 2008 “Future Primitive” runway show, a show that was inspired by Carri’s concept of “urban shamanism.” As Carri explains it, “urban shamanism” a way of thinking that is summarised in her unique style for the season – “Ancient Amazonian hunting rituals adapted by a gang of skaters in a post apocalyptic city”.

Carri was inspired by Nike’s minimalistic design approach, keeping the Blazer’s striking elongated swoosh centered on the shoe. “We’ve left only a circle and triangle for the wearer to decode”.

The Cassette Playa Blazer will be available at the Nike Sportswear 1948 store at Bateman’s Row, Shoreditch and select Nike Sportswear retailers.

Previewed here a couple of months ago, the Nike ACG J Blazer by UK fashion brand Cassette Playa will be released very soon. We can show you now some first detailed images of the sneaker. It comes with a salmon colored snakeskin upper and matching croc Swoosh. The back heel features a small green patch with an embossed triangle logo. The sneaker comes with matching salmon and green laces. Images via Mr.Kim.

So far we do not know when the sneaker will release, but we will keep you posted.

In this digital age the move towards a more vibrant style of lookbook seemed inevitible. Still, most brands stuck to the tried and true. Cassette Playa, on the other hand, has produced a video highlighting their Autumn/Winter 2008 Collection.

Collaborating with Pitti Immages, Cassette Playa made the video “I Can Haz Ur Nightmarz Turnz to Dreamz.” This platform, then, became the showcase for the “Utube Utopia” collection which was inspired by social networking and new platforms for social exchange. Music is provided by internet star Patrick Jumpman.

UK brand Cassette Playa created a series of t-shirts entitled “Utube Utopia”. If you thought that the graphics up until now were wild, then have a closer look at these. All over prints fusing images from Youtube videos and photos are featured on all four t-shirts in the series.

The t-shirts were created exclusively for Seven New York and are now available for 495 USD (!!!) a piece in very limited quantities.

Carrie Munden of Cassette Playa has created an impressive installation for Nike Sportswear London. Entitled "Split", the installation was inspired by the Nike Split Windrunner. You can create your own split avatar and get a limited edition videoringtone, downloadable to your phone.

Some weeks ago we presented you the first collaborative model between London’s Swear and Cassette Playa. Now the second style, the Playa 1. It comes in black and white patent, as well as a more colorful yellow patent version. The Cassette Playa logo appears on the inner sole.
Much like the Cassette Playa collection itself, these Playa 1 shoes are not for everybody. But we appreciate Cassette Playa pushing the boundaries and doing things different.
This model is still part of the Spring/Summer 2008 collection and is available in the Swear online store.
