Giorgio Armani x Samsung Galaxy S Phone

Giorgio Armani x Samsung Galaxy S Phone

Once again Giorgio Armani teams up with Samsung to release yet another phone. This time they present the Galaxy S Android operated phone.

“The Android-operated Galaxy S features a 5-megapixel camera, multimedia player, push e-mail and 16 gigabytes of memory. The phone will retail at around 700 euros, or about $965 at current exchange, and will be available in Giorgio Armani boutiques and leading mobile retailers in Italy, France, the U.K., Germany, Dubai, China, Hong Kong, Spain, Russia and the Netherlands starting from December.” Via WWD.

The branding is kept to a minimum and this might be in terms of functionality once of the very first interesting fashion phones. At the same time, the question arises, why one would pay the added Armani pricetag, with little to no added value in terms of functionality and design.

Dolce & Gabbana x Sony Ericsson Jalou

The Dolce & Gabbana branded phone features a facet cut jewel form and measures in at only 73mm – that’s less than 3 inches. The phone comes packaged with three satin bags to either protect the phone, store the charger, or to carry whatever you’re into. It also comes with a D & G branded headset, and exclusive photography and video clips from their Autumn/Winter 2010 runway show will be pre-loaded on the handset along with a variety of stylish themes and wallpapers. Other features include a two inch screen that converts into a mirror at the touch of a button, Walk Mate step counter, 3.2 megapixel camera, music player, video recording, 3G, Bluetooth, and built-in FM radio. Available in a variety of gem inspired colours including: Deep Amethyst, Aquamarine Blue and Onyx Black. Watch for this starting October 2009.

Motorola Aura Video

15 January 2009, 10.00 | Posted in Gadgets | 3 comments »

For some time we have been following the development of the new Motorola high end cellphone, entitled Aura. To be honest we did not expect too much, first of all because the screen seems so small and also because we thought that Vertu has this space covered very well. According to Engadget, it seems like Motorola did an excellent job with the Aura and at 1/4th the price of a Vertu, we got interested. Check out the video above.

Palm Pre

Most of you should have heard by now of the Palm Pre, the new cellphone coming from Palm. It is about time, and let’s be honest, most people did not expect anything anymore from Palm. Now it seems like they are back on the table and maybe stronger than ever. The Palm Pre has so far gotten only (almost) positive remarks and even after first testing the little “iPhone killer” still seems to hold up. Just like with the iPhone you can pretty much do everything with your fingers on the touchscreen, but for those of you that do not like the “all touchscreen” phones this is good news, it does also have a full slide out QWERTY keyboard.

We cannot wait to see it live and to play around with it. A little competition does not hurt anybody!

More images of the Pam Pre follow after the jump.

Hugo Boss Cellphone

hugo boss cellphone 1 Hugo Boss Cellphone

After Prada and Armani, German luxury brand Hugo Boss is the latest to join in on producing a collaborative cellphone with Korean brand Samsung.

Leaving the technical specs on the side for a moment, we can only say that we are a little disappointed. In general we think it is a good move for these brands to enter this market, as it is part of the lifestyle. But at the same time we expected a little more. If you put the Prada, Armani and Hugo Boss cellphones side by side, you will notice that they are pretty much exactly the same phones, the only difference being the logo on the front. They all have touchscreens, they are all black and they have the same buttons. From a high end luxury fashion house we expect more – more consideration of their client, more unique styling and the hunger to innovate when entering a new market, at least from a design perspective.

Somebody who purchases one of these phones is not looking for the latest functions. You can get that from the iPhone or the Android G1 much cheaper. They are looking for unique looks and so far they have failed in delivering that. Let’s be honest – the iPhone beats them in looks any day.

The Hugo Boss phone comes with a touchscreen, 5 megapixel camera, MP3 player, radio and all the other functionality that one expects from a modern cellphone.

Take a more detailed look after the jump.

Motorola Aura

motorola aura cellphone Motorola Aura

We still remember the times when every couple of months a new exciting cellphone was hitting the market. That has changed a lot in the last two years. Even though we have more functionality than ever before, it is still a boring market. How many people around you have something different from a Blackberry or an iPhone?

Once in a while, rarely, but it still does happen, something exciting is coming out. This week the Motorola Aura will be released. “Precision crafted from the essence of imagination. Swiss engineered rotating mechanism, a 62-carat sapphire crystal lens and a unique 16 million colour, circular display.”

It can probably do less than the Blackberry or the iPhone, but it certainly wins with its looks and believe it or not, not everybody needs eMail and Internet at all times!

The Motorola Aura will be launched exclusively at Selfridges this month.
