Volkswagen presents the E-Bugster Concept, which is basically a vision of how an all electric version of the more masculine new Beetle could look like.

“What’s really going on here is VW applying its Blue-e-motion electric drive unit to a sexier shape ahead of its production debut in the decidedly more plebeian Golf. In this application, VW has fitted the E-Bugster Concept with an electric motor and 695-pound lithium-ion battery fitted under the rear seat and trunk floor. Combined, they’ll be good for a 100-mile driving range, according to VW, and accept all kinds of charges, including a Level 3 quick charger that can get the pack back up to 80 percent in 30 minutes. The motor produces 114-horsepower (85 kW) and 199 pound-feet of scoot.

Besides the chopped top and big wheels, the E-Bugster also gets slightly reworked front and rear fascias that feature the trademark LED daytime running lights that VW uses on all of its EV projects. The only change on the inside of the car is a new instrument cluster with an “energy consumption display” where the tachometer would be and additional gauges for the battery charge, range indicator and braking regen.”

A good concept and certainly something to look out for, because in this form or not, the Beetle will eventually come with an all electric engine option as well.

Concepts and Sorel have joined forces for the third year in a row, this time to present to Kitchner High for men alongside the Liftline LTR for women. While retaining seam-sealed waterproof construction, Concepts also created a custom fair isle print on both uppers. The collection combines refined and rugged style inherent to Sorel with precise curation from Concepts. The result is a refreshing and sophisticated collection of boots as at home in a winter storm as they are in more sartorial setting – perfect for the discerning urban explorer. The boots will be available Friday October 14th, at Concepts and Colette.

Clarks Originals once again in conjunction with Concepts has collaborated on their interpretation of the Ashcott. This time around they went for a mix of durable canvas and vegetable tan leather accents on the upper of the timeless shoe. This is the first time the Ashcott has been made using canvas and is tied together nicely with a full grain leather insole. Concepts branding can be found on the tongue and heel tab. The Concepts Ashcott will be limited to 300 pairs each of the Black and Olive with only 200 pairs being produced of the Red. They will launch this upcoming Saturday, June 11th, at Concepts in Boston.

Today we come across an interesting concept by schellDsign for Bell & Ross. The idea was to fuse the worlds of Bell & Ross and Apple in a new concept that brings together the design aesthetic of the high end watch brand and the iPod Nano. Not only do we like the idea and the outcome, it will also be interesting to see if a brand in the high end watch market will ever be able to go down such a route, incorporating today’s technology, while still remaining quality craftsman.

The BR M&T (Music & Time) 01 is essentially only a strap, where you can lock your iPod Nano into. Bell & Ross would then offer themed watches, that you can switch between on the Nano, every time completely changing the look of the watch.

Inspired by the heritage of the Massachusetts sailing community, Concepts created an understated and wearable New Balance 999 sneaker. The shoe pays tribute to the sea with a semaphore pattern grid the footbed, gray and khaki accents and nautical alphabet flags on the tongue.

Available April 16th at Concepts (storeguide) the sneaker will be accompanied by a host of products including: premium sail polo, five panel duck brimmed cap, artisan sail-lace tee, semaphore tote bag, signature Rayban Wayfarers, bucket hat, monkey fist keychain and rope bracelet handmade in Nantucket exclusively for Concepts.

Concepts has gotten together with Mitchell & Ness to collaborate on a small collection of winter accessories. The collection includes classic color cable knit beanies, football club style scarves and fleece lined gloves – all co-branded with Mitchell and Ness and Concepts logos. The accessories are now available from Concepts.

We present yet another collaboration between Concepts and Sorel for Fall/Winter 2010. For men they present the Sentry Chukka, a mid top sneaker coming with a wool upper, leather details, red accents and of course the signature rubber toe box by Sorel. These are now available from Concepts.

After a quick preview from the Sneaker Freaker cover, we can take a more detailed look at the upcoming collaboration between New Balance and Boston boutique Concepts on the 999 running sneaker, entitled “The Kennedy”.

“Frank Rivera at Concepts in Cambridge has given us the scoop on his nifty New Balance 999s, which were designed to reflect President John F. Kennedy’s love for New England’s sailing history. Trimmed in classical red, white and blue (with tan highlights), there’s a host of tiny details including nylon paneling and CNCPTS flag logos, and the shoes come with a mesh bag that should be ideal to drain anything that tips overboard. “

Once again Sorel gets together with Boston retailer Concepts to collaborate on new men’s and women’s boots for Winter 2010.

“Concepts has partnered with Sorel for the second year in a row with the intention of finding the sweet spot at the intersection of designing for fashion and creating for purpose. We are offering 2 models, the Men’s 1964 Premium and the Women’s Tivoli— both styled in charcoal wool, red high lights and replacing Sorel’s traditional rubber toe with rich leather.”

The Sorel for Concepts boots will be released Black Friday, November 26th, at Concepts Boston.
