Some images of the collection have already appeared. Here we can now give you a complete look at the Levi’s x Damien Hirst Fall 2008 collection.

Art collectors and denim connoisseurs have a new object of desire; a handful of ultra-rare Levi’s® 1947 501® jeans turned into unique works of art by celebrated contemporary artist Damien Hirst.

Hirst, whose works recently fetched an amazing £111 million in just two days, breaking all auction records previously held by Picasso, has turned seven pairs of iconic 1947 501® jeans into canvases to create unique signature Spin Paintings.

Just one of these striking pieces will be exhibited and sold in the UK to mark the arrival of the Damien Hirst X Levi’s® collection. With a reserve price of £15,000, it will be unveiled at Cinch, Newburgh St, from Wednesday 16th October, where it will sold through a silent auction. Full details will be available in store.

The Levi’s® X Damien Hirst collection revolves around three key themes of Damien Hirst’s body of work – the skull, spots and tropical butterfly. Levi’s® 501® jeans in black and over-dye blue are teamed with white, black and deep purple rock-inspired T-shirts emblazoned with iconic Hirst imagery – tropical butterflies, dots and skulls.

fortheloveofgod Damien Hirsts For the Love of God at Rijksmuseum

The world tour of Damien Hirst’s “For the Love of God” will kick off on November 1 at Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum. Widely celebrated thus far, the diamond encrusted skull will be accompanied by a selection of the Museum’s 17th Century art chosen by Hirst himself. It seems that he’s not only changing the nature of how art is sold, but also how it is exhibited. “For the Love of God” will remain in Amsterdam until December 15.

Damien Hirst “Beautiful Inside My Mind Forever” | Sothebys Auction

highsnobiety - Damien Hirst

Next Monday and Tuesday (9/15 and 9/16) Damien Hirst’s much anticipated Beautiful Inside My Mind Forever hits the auction block at Sotheby’s London location. Groundbreaking, in the sense that Hirst is skipping the traditional gallery market and going a, as he puts it, more democratic route. The sale is sure to bring in some large sums. And that, to be honest, takes some of the democracy away.

Sotheby’s description of the sale is as follows — "Beautiful Inside My Head Forever, a major auction of works by Damien Hirst, will include an important series of new pieces which have been created over the past two years, including monumental formaldehyde sculptures; paintings which expand on the artist’s classic themes such as butterflies, cancer cells and pills; exquisite new cabinets and insightful preparatory drawings."

View some selections from the Beautiful Inside My Mind Forever sale after the jump.

highsnobiety - Levi's x Damien Hirst Fall 2008 Collection
The limited edition Levi’s x Damien Hirst collection will be getting into stores this Fall.Combining a fascination by the artist of skulls and denim, he has combines the two elements and we give you a first look at what there is to come.
"Hirst worked closely on the project with designer Adrian Nyman, who previously made a collection of Levi’s imprinted with Andy Warhol’s art. The current Fall 08 line focuses on three common themes from only Hirst’s work—skulls, spots and tropical butterflies. The images are emblazoned on black and blue jeans, as well as white, black and purple t-shirts. Some of the skull images feature the splattered paint of his "spin paintings" and one shirt has the black and white portrait of the artist and a skull. The line is rounded out with a signature denim and leather jacket." Via Coolhunting.
The Levi’s x Damien Hirst line will be hitting stores like Barney’s New York, Fred Segal and Union (NYC) in mid-September.

Damien Hirst: Straight to the Auction House

29 June 2008, 02.34 | Posted in Art | No comments »

highsnobiety - Damien Hirst: Straight to the Auction House Turner prize winner Damien Hirst is changing his selling tactic. Rather than go the traditional gallery route, the artist will now take new material directly to auction. Two shows worth of Hirst’s work will hit the floor at Sotheby’s on September 15 and 16. Included is the "The Golden Calf," a bull sealed in a formaldehyde filled gold plated and glass box. The work is estimated to go for twelve million pounds.
Hirst’s sale, titled "Beautiful Inside My Head Forever," signals a major change in the art world. His prices are no longer "set" as it were, and in the competitive contemporary market we can expect record highs for Hirst’s sales. Not so sure that the auction house move actually opens Hirst to a wider market, but it will certainly lead to deep pockets. Via Supertouch.
