MAD Magazine will be turning 60 and to celebrate the momentous occasion, this amazing set of collectible action figures will be released. Called the Just-Us League of Stupid Heroes, we see the iconic Alfred E. Neuman under the guise of some other highly recognizable characters. The face of MAD dons the attire of Superman, Batman, Robin, Wonder Woman, the Joker and other DC Comics characters. The 6″ figures will be dropping on April 4, 2012 and they will be available at DC Direct.

DC Entertainment has unveiled a wave of new interactive logos that are meant to correspond with certain comics and superheroes. DC refers to them as “peel back” logos where you can see the “D” peeling back revealing the “C” in addition to more insight into the characters, etc.

Speaking with Fast Company, DC’s Senior Vice President of Franchise Management Amit Desai suggested the new logo’s “peel back” imagery reflected the nature of DC characters as individuals with dual identities. “When you think about our DC Comics superheroes, there’s a secret identity,” he said. “When you think about Vertigo, it’s this notion of good vs. evil in many of the stories. And so, in addition to flexibility, the new logo communicates this idea of dual identity: There’s more than meets the eye. You have to take a closer look to understand the richness of our characters and stories.”

With DC Comics turning 75, this gives them great reason to celebrate. The comic book kings, along with one of their more recognizable Batman villains, The Riddler, linked up with Converse to commemorate the occasion with this All Star Hi. Made of a premium waxed leather, this pair of sneakers comes in Riddler’s signature green color with an embossed question mark on the side, and purple lining completing the theme of the Caped Crusader’s nemesis. Converse continues to work with DC Comics and presents for Holiday 2011 a new line-up of comic character themed sneakers. The latest release includes both Chuck Taylor All Star Hi’s and Low’s, featuring artwork of Batman, Superman and Flash. The designs are bold and colorful, therefore you really have to be a fan in order to be able to pull these off.

SOPHNET has once again worked with Disney and DC Comics as part of their Fall/Winter 2011 Collection. After already having released t-shirts earlier in the season, they now present knitwear. The crewneck sweaters feature Superman and Batman logos, as well as Mickey Mouse. The sweaters will be available from Sophnet retailers starting October 1st, 2011.

A couple of days ago we presented some collaborative sneakers by Bounty Hunter, Airwalk and DC Comics. As part of the same project Japanese brand Masterpiece has also gotten together with Airwalk and DC Comics. They also present Superman and Batman themed sneakers. This time the result is are two high top sneakers, a little more colorful and playful than what we have seen from BxH. Logos of all three brands are placed on the in-sole and the box.

In an interesting collaboration Japanese brand Bounty Hunter teams up with DC Comics and Airwalk on a pack of sneakers. Keeping it overall very clean, the two sneakers come in all black, featuring a mix of suede and leather on the upper. Tonal Bounty Hunter and Batman/Superman branding is placed on the upper. These are certainly not the most innovative silhouette, but if you are a Bounty Hunter and Batman fan, this is just perfect.

Today we can preview a collaborative collection between Converse and DC Comics for Spring 2011. Most of you know that the iconic comic brand is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. In time for that some of their most famous characters are featured on the Chuck Taylor by Converse. Overall the line has a vintage feel to it.

In September Taschen will release the title “75 Years of DC Comics: The Art of Modern Mythmaking”, a tribute to the iconic comic book publishing house.

As part of their collaboration with DC Comics, colette has invited Italian footwear maker Superga to produce comic heroe themed sneakers. The sneakers come in the iconic colors of each respective superheroe with further branding all-over the sneaker. Many of you out there have probably already seen Watchmen, a movie that has been much talked about in recent months, especially since its release beginning of March. Medicom Toy got together with DC Comics to create a 100% and a 400% Watchmen Bearbrick set. The set will be coming out in May 2009.

After recently teaming up with Bape, DC Comics now got together with Eastpak and boutique Kinetics to collaborate on a limited edition Batman backpack. Limited to 500 pieces, the backpack comes in black and carries an all-over design of the iconic Batman logo. It is now available online, and will be released the 22nd of December in store.

Official Bape has some shots of the soon to be released Autumn/Winter 2007 collection by Bape. We continue to concentrate on the DC Comics collaboration. In the new collection there will a New Era cap featuring all characters of this collaboration as an all-over print. They also present the matching all-over print hoodie.
We actually do like the cap, but the hoodie is exactly the kind of Bape 5-year old all-over print that we are getting a little sick off. But they do have some nice plaid printed hoodies in the collection as well, which we can be looking forward to.

You might have noticed that we do not report all that much anymore about Bape. As inspiring and innovative as the brand was, we don’t feel that they are who they used to be anymore. But one still has to respect what they created and all the things that they started, that nowadays seem so normal, but were ground-breaking at the time when they introduced it. So, some of their special projects we definitely still like, such as the recent Bape x DC Comics collaboration.
After the recent release of the hoodies, crewnecks and toys featuring imagery of the DC Comic Heroes Superman, Batman, The Flash and Wonderwoman, Bape now releases the matching Bapesta sneakers. Just like the Marvel collaboration Bapesta series, these are also released in special packaging. They are now available at Cliff Edge.
