hublot knives razors ecal 1 Hublot Knives and Razor by Jacques Elie Ribeyron

ECAL (Ecole Cantonale de L’Art de Lausanne) student Jacques-Elie Ribeyron presents his master project of the Mas-Lux program, a mix of industrial and luxury design. The designer created two projects in collaboration with Swiss watch maker Hublot – a knife set and a razor set.

Inspired by the materials and looks of Hublot watches, Jacques-Elie Ribeyron presents some more unusual products with Hublot branding.

The two projects have won the Prix d’exellence at ECAL and we could not agree more.

Detailed images and more info on the Hublot Knives and Razors Project follow here.

Maison Martin Margiela “The Maison in a Room” at Milan Design Week 2010

Maison Martin Margeila The Maison in a Room at Milan Design Week 2010

Design Boom reports on Maison Martin Margeila’s contribution to Milan Design Week 2010.

“the atmosphere of the room draws on his iconographic use of black and white furniture, objects, fabrics and textures. trompe l’oeil walls of this parisian apartment show a fireplace, doors and carved wood panels to build on the space’s personality.

referencing the coloring games played by children, the walls are displayed with partially empty numbered zones to be re-colored in different shades of grey and silver. safes are half hidden behind classical paintings to display jewelry while sunglasses are presented on the eyes of surrealistic dolls.

‘the maison in a room’ is occupied by additional designs by margiela including: his complete collection of home objects edited by ENO, the maison martin margiela book published by rizzoli, ‘untitled’ his first fragrance for women, his jewelry collection, his complete collection of ‘incognito’ sunglasses and his hand-knotted wool and silk rug  which came out of his collaboration with chevalier édition.”

“The Maison in a Room” is on display until May 30, 2010 at 10 Corso Como, Milan.

Aitor Throup “Legs” Exhibition

25 January 2010, 20.20 | Posted in Design, Fashion | 1 comment »

Aitor Throup "Legs" Exhibition

This weekend in Paris, one of our favorite designers, Aitor Throup, launched “Legs”, a retrospective of envelope-pushing trousers he designed over the past six years.

Throughout the Galerie Jean-Luc are Takako Richard stationary male forms moulded in thermoactive cotton mesh in rows from the ceiling, captured in vital movements of the human body. Throup has progressed chronologically through his archives, lifting a selection of designs from every six months and reinterpreting them with materials and design details appropriate to the season – and in doing so, has created an arena welcoming the expression of pure creativity and functionality. Capable of communicating a full-bodied narrative without proposing a complete look, Legs strives to elevate the status of trousers from over-saturated commodities to unique objet d’art.

Throup’s series of trousers entitled ‘The Funeral of New Orleans’ is in particular a testament to the creativity and logic of his vision. Informed by the traditional funeral processions of New Orleans’ marching bands, it deals with concepts of body armour – each piece is formed onto a mesh sculpture of the human body created in the pose required to play each instrument, and the trousers demonstrate five exaggerated stages of shrinkage from when wool is exposed to water. It is clear that Throup’s designs exist beyond the tired parameters of fashion– they are meticulously constructed garments existing both within their narrative and without, made with respect for the human body and an astounding understanding of its formation.

If you’re interested in this project, we suggest you visit Dazed Digital for an interview with Mr. Throup as well as AitorTroup.com for a video presentation of “Legs”. More images follow.
